Now I am really curious: how can this task change the course of your life (and how much?)?

You may retrieve the value using the simple query: SELECT @@global.time_zone; as stated in this[^] MYSQL documentation page.
(If you just don't know how to connect with MYSQL server for issuing simple queries then you're lucky: there are thousands tutorials available about).

No, it isn't your life.
It's your homework.

We do not do your homework: it is set for a reason. It is there so that you think about what you have been told, and try to understand it. It is also there so that your tutor can identify areas where you are weak, and focus more attention on remedial action.

Try it yourself, you could find it isn't as difficult as you think.
