How to check if file download is complete ?

I have a very simple and standard PHP force download script.

How do I check if/when the download has completed in order to make change in database?

The reason I need this:

For the project I am working on, it is required that after the download get completes, I need to change the value from '0' to '1', which shows that, the User has download the file.

Please help me..
