Kenneth Im completely agree with you. But writing a complete assembly code for machine its better to have existing code and to work on it. so that communally we can develop a best OS thinking different from windows.

For cosmos you need to install first Visual studio 2010 express, ultimate or prof. It is a very basic kit for developing own OS. for initial start you can learn from it.
