In fairness, this isn't "homework" in the traditional sense. This is a Universoty project where the focus is on independant studying and we're encouraged to seek for answers to any problems we encounter using methods like this, hence why I askedin the first place. Also, this is my first solo coding project so I'm not very familiar with how the debugger works. For the second example, as you said, I am sure the answer there is very obvious but having been staring at this code for over 20 hours for the past week, My brain is melting and I can't see the mistake... :(
