I did try that. I found that my value is replicated four times. I just wanted to figure out why. I thought that it may be because == places the reference of a value and .equals places the exact value. Just wanted to confirm it

If there's any error in the link then iam open for a debate. Iam least concerned about the reputation points. All what i need is the reason for my downvote

It hurts when u r giving a proper solution and ur article is downvoted by a minnow just because he/she did not understand or do not have any other work

I have been observing that u r constantly downvoting my solutions. If there is any problem regarding the link that i have posted then please do reply. If u have time only for downvoting stuff then better learn some programming language rather than just coming here and downvoting the post

for enabling the named pipes or any protocols all the services must be enabled right? In my configuration manager iam getting a message saying that no services are enabled . If i try enabling any service i get an error saying that "request failed or service did not respond in the timely fashion"

@krishna : u can grant or revoke the permission from the back end. That would be much easier. U can grant or deny permission for a user.

ohk if the status is set inactive then only there should be insert?
Fine
try this code
create procedure getval(@status varchar(6),@name varchar(max))
as
set @status=(select status from cus where name=@name)
if(@status='Inactive')
begin
insert into cus values(whichever values u need to insert)
end

Its only for a single table named cus. If you want it in multiple tables then just use the same criterion in all the tables where you need enddate
Rakshith Kumar
16-Oct-13 5:50am

ohk end date should not be greater than systems' current date?
not an issue
u can just use
enddate date constraint chk_date check(enddate>getdate())
Rakshith Kumar
16-Oct-13 5:47am
View
if you are using that particular table structure then it will never allow end date to be lesser than the start date
Rakshith Kumar
16-Oct-13 5:44am
View
well i still dint get ur entire point. If u want enddate to be greater than start date then you will need to use check constraint
create table cus(
name varchar(max),
address varchar(max),
startdate date,
enddate date constraint chk_date check(enddate>startdate),
status varchar(6) default'Active'
);
this will make sure that end date is greater than the start date

If that is the case it will only deny the permission to the users of the database. My question however was to deny the users present in the table to deny the update permission. It will not work for my requirement. But thank you for the letting me know the use of granting and denying the permission. Thanks again :)

My dear i guess its only for the sql server users ? Correct me if iam wrong. The thing is i have a table customer and i need to set the username as un editable. denying the update previlege will mean that you are denying the sql server user the previlege to edit.

But this works on the sql server users only right? What i meant is granting and revoking permissions can be done only for the users specified by the sql server

the question seems a bit void of data. Which database are u using? Do u want to update the value entered in the textbox to the database?
i Have a solution to what you have asked and what i have percieved from the question. according to me i can do it in this way
Import microsoft.applicationblocks.Data
In your main program
u can use
sqlhelper.executenonquery(name of ur connection,name of ur stored procedure,parameters to be passed);
this will update the entered values onto the database
