Thanks, it now works. But are there any possible side effects that may arise from removing the using statement in the GetClient(url) method ?

Sorry for any misunderstanding, I perform the first part of the code in C#. Its performing the second part of the code in C# that has me hooked. And also I am using (using System.Data.SqlClient;) which is .Net built in sqlconnection framework.

thanks for the help, but I fixed it, I forgot to add (DRTM_AssetTracker_Person.Guid, DRTM_AssetTracker_Person.FirstName, DRTM_AssetTracker_Person.LastName) in the FROM clause.

The purpose of the GUI is to aid the user select the given file they want and the file read-in is surprisingly very fast.
The file I am using has been edited thoroughly and only has a small data set. Also, I don't want to add code for error handling until I fix this problem.

Sorry for wasting your precious time, but i found out why it was not working. It did not work because try catch doesn't work for compile errors.

I want to my custom message to catch when a bad date is entered (1900-1-0). Now MSQL management studio already does this by outputting : Msg 8114 , Error converting data type nvarchar to datetime. But I want my custom error to also output the bad data that caused it. Because my boss is going to dump a lot of queries for execution and some will have this bad data.

is it not usually a query passed to statement for execution, why are they passing a Resultset? if a Db has been queried and a Resultset is obtained, is the Resultset not meant to be returned?.

ok so you said that a DataReader is Equivalent to a result set. So from the code, if a statement executes a Resultst, does an Sqlcommand execute a DataReader?
rudolph098

my problem is that they Resltset passes the data to be executed to statement, but Datareader get the data from an exectuted SqlCommand. but there's is a reverse

thank you, but something confuses me, in the code I placed above, they are passing a result set to an instance of a Statement object to be executed. So I am not sure how I will be able to mirror this with an SqlReader. Because an SqlReader get the data from an executed sqlcommand. I am confused , I would b very greatful if you shed more light on it. Thanks

Thank for the help, actually I have been to this site already. The major thing that throws me off in the java code is that an instance of node (objRecord) is being passed as a parameter in selectSingleNode funcion, while the c# version of this function, implements it in a very different way. In C#, they performs a query on a xml document, but this java version performs a query on an object

Thanks that solved on problem, but there is a new one.
Since its an oracleDb, i decided to change all the classes since there was the Oracle version for all the Sql.
To clarify: Dataset data1 = new Dataset(), so the oracle version of this is OracleDataset data1 = new Dataset(). So for all the other like SqlDataReader, SqlDataAdapter etc. all i did was to add Oracle in front of it for the purpose of uniformity and so the V.S stops complaining about conversion between the classes.
but the real question is that i am getting a new error message, after i made this change
OracleConnection Astra_db_Conn = new OracleConnection(Astra_conn);
string myquery = sql.ToString();
OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(myquery);
Astra_db_Conn.Open();
try
{
OracleDataAdapter adpt = new OracleDataAdapter();
rs=cmd.ExecuteReader(); // this is where i get the error
adpt.Fill(rs);
} catch(Exception e)
{
log.Error("*** ERROR *** IRISExportQueries.loadStudentInfoLearningSites():" + e);
}
// but then i get the error: "cannot implicitly convert type 'Data.Oracle.OracleDataReader' to 'Data.Oracle.OracleDataSet'"
// thanks for the help
