Product Code is fine and that can be updated. ( i did edited end part of my question - how to get correct Error code). Basically i am expecting Error code 1683 to be returned so that my another module can catch it, but setup always returns Error Code 1603

Once you install your setup file, it will extract application in C:\Program Files (or other location if you chosen) Go to that location edit app.config file and save it. this way you can change connection string. Note that name of app.config file will be application.config(if your application name is abc.exe then config file will be abc.config

oh... in that case you can check
select * from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.ROUTINES WHERE SPECIFIC_NAME = 'InsertUpdateLocation' OR ROUTINE_NAME = '_InsertUpdateLocation'

and check here if specific schema is DBO . if it is not then you can face this problem.

if you column data type is date time then it will return proper results. it seems that you are storing date as varchar column

"the connection property has not been set or is null" is indication of non initialization of connection. You are reading string from config file, but are you using it in connection?
