Think that you have a server at work with ActiveComPort and your scanner installed.

When you use your computer at home, you can access the server via browser and control the scanner. But you can not access your home computers' scanner from work computer.

If you don't want it to be displayed then there is no point assigning a value to it. Can't you assign the value to another variable and use it from there?
