I seen this question marked as an answer because I have the same problem. Since the reply is signed as an answer, but is not, I think is better to know for anyone else reading the thread.

The "Allow service Interact with Desktop" suggestion is **wrong** since in Win7 /2k8 server and newer this check does not change the session the process is running on.

I did not notice so much overead, but feel free to join the codeplex project and propose/try your changes. The reason file is closed is to gracefully handle the file "move". The seek at the end, as you probably know does not mean reading all the file.

Thanks Ian for testing,
Not exactly, the file is onlyloaded once, in order to apply the filter, then it just seeks to the old position. It works even with a 50 mb log file.
