In my naivete I thought if I just made the variables that are modified public static, then it should be OK? In my design only one of the threads is actually operating on the variables and the other thread is only "reading" the variables, so I thought by doing this separating there wouldnt be any "signal interference" so to speak. But from what I am understanding, even "reading" the variables in the second thread can be a problem. I'll look into thread safe stuff and try to change the design. Big thanks.

Maybe you don't know the language as well as you think you do.

No windows are involved. Everything is procedural. No graphics, etc.
Details of the loop are not necessary, except that the loop cannot be impeded. No data passing, except if you consider the boolean a communication with whatever is outside of the loop.
Loop runs block at several hundred thousand iterations per second, so I am timing various implementations, including one involving an event, which I have little experience with.
I am not sure how the compiler processes the event but it be timed. Still no code examples of how to implement event-- my question was clear enough. Warmest Regards.

No I am not kidding. This code will be running at a rate of thousands if not millions of times a second. So the implementation will matter in terms of efficiency. I am not sure how the compiler will process your particular code.

I am not very familiar with properties and property setter. Is there an easy way to code this?

Sorry, I meant that the inside of the block is time-consuming. Therefore, I want SomeTimeConsumingMethod to occur somewhere else.

There are some very good points. I have actually found "do something different" to be very useful when coding. I am measuring time for execution for various lines, code blocks, critical points in the code. I feel like a lot of that performance testing is automatable and was also wondering if there was something for C# that can run the app and then sort of let the dev know where, statistically, time is being spent most.

in my application, 7000 ticks can make a difference, so seconds could be a huge performance gain. good thought on the quicksort. thanks.

Good point, Dave. With that said, I suppose the question is what is the most efficient way of sorting.

Good point Gerry! I intended the size to be exemplary, it could be changing in real-time: sometimes even, sometimes odd. Since this method will be called often, I need it to be as efficient as possible.

You're right, I don't. That's why I ask questions.
I know they are different - I said so in the question.

I have two different apps, one that uses a for loop and the other that uses an event. That is all you really need to know. I expect them to behave identically since the logic is the same, but they don't.

So youre staying create a winforms app not a console app, is that correct? Are there built-in classes in Visual Studio for charts? The link you sent appears to be a third party thing?

i appreciate your reply. i didnt mean building it from scratch in console. i like console apps because they are computationally efficient. is it not possible to add a using statement to use winforms in a console app?

My app is a console app. Some suggested outputting to a file and then using Excel, which may be easiest. I just thought there might be an easy one or two lines that would automatically create a chart from the code, where the user could stretch, zoom, and otherwise interact with the chart. Thanks!

socket.eventPool.Subscribe("temp", new EventHandler<args>((i, p) =>
{
ts[cur] = p.temp;
if (somebool?)
{
socket.sendcommand;
}
}
In the above, the sendcommand only gets to the server about 50% of the time. I want it to go through 100%.

Ah Thanks! I am very familiar with CSV, I love this idea. How would I add or retrieve data from the CSV file in C#? In other words how would I get my data from my array to the file and vice versa? Thanks! :)
