After playing with the N specifier I think N0 is the best. I tried to use only N and my program only accepts single whole number and then whenever I click other button with value from 1 to 9, it will just add 1 to the right index, it will become like this 1.01... keeps on pressing the button, it will just add 0.01 to the textbox. You have to press a hundred times to make it 2.00.

The adding of commas after every 3 digits is working fine now but inserting a decimal is now the problem.

Thanks for the solution I'm really amazed by that numberstyle Enum. Now my problem is that the textbox is not accepting decimal value it only accepts whole numbers.

Yes I think that's because of that line which causes the ValuChange event to be fired twice, But without setting the NUD to zero and the user clicks up the label misbehaves. I guess the best solution for this is to set the NUD to false when the label reaches 0. Thanks anyway.

Experience is what will bring most answers to it, and remaining curious and always be able to question one's own practices are key elements, too.

Thanks for these closing remarks and about that Add I tried to avoid it when I'm writing my code above because I can't seem to find the importance of it before and I find the AddWithValue to be simple and easy to write but now that you pointed it out also and looks like AddWithValue will lead into problems in the future then I'll study how to use the Add method.

My primary goal for now is to learn how to write code in a cleaner manner, adapt the best practices of how to write codes efficiently (if there is any please provide me a link) because my code kinda looks messy.

However, that bad code: although rand.nextInt(n) returns a value between 0 and (n - 1) inclusive (See the documentation: Java.util.Random.nextInt() in Java - GeeksforGeeks[^]) adding one to it means it only uses elements 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the array - the value in index 0 will always be zero.

I already ready this reply of yours last night and tried to understand this.

So like you said
You're not "storing" the random number - you are using it to identify which "column" of the array is counting them.

In the line:

++freq[1 + rand.nextInt(4)];

The [1 + rand.nextInt(4)] acts as an index of the array freq because it's inside of the [ ]. Since I'm using the random.nextInt inside the [ ] it generates random index for the freq? That's the reason behind why you said you are using it to identify which "column" of the array is counting them.

Since there is a 1 inside [ ] the 4th index of array freq can now be accessed?

The ++freq increments the element of the index (which is randomly generated). So the
[1 + rand.nextInt(4)] has nothing to do with value of the array it just generate the index for the array(randomly).

The ++freq is the one who is responsible for the values because it increments the value of where the index at which is generated by the rand.nextInt(4).

So if I want to increase the the numbers inside of each element I should increase the condition of the for loop? like raise it to
roll < 1000?? Is this the right way to do it?

I hope my eyes are glazing on the right spot now haha.

I'm still confused with the ++freq although OriginalGriff break down the code already.
It really looks incrementing but when I added a breakpoint on the for loop the storing of the random number sometimes starts at random indices also.

Hello, OriginalGriff I managed to get around with my problem here. I honestly don't know how to do your suggestions and I'm sorry about that.

I made another button named capture to capture the value of the label before the NUD can change the value.
This the code I'm using to capture the value of the label.

retainedValue = Convert.ToInt32(lblpoints.Text)

and in the clear button, I added this code

numCategory.Value = 0lblpoints.Text = retainedValue.ToString()

Now it's working like what I intended to, but I need to click the capture button before I can do anything else with the NUD. I tried inserting the code to different events of the NUD just to avoid clicking the "capture" button first.
Please help me again. I want to avoid clicking the "capture" button.

Hi, I'm really lost now. I don't know what to do next.

My problem is like this, let's say for example I increase the value of the NUD to 20 so the label should become 80 and I got it working BUT if I click the "clear" button which has this code numCategory.ResetText() to clear the NUD the label stays at 80. What I want to happen is it should also reset to whatever value it has before the numCategory_ValueChanged event not to its original value because I'm using the value of the NUD as the points to be inserted in a database and I'm using the label as a display on how many points are left for the user.

I have another question. I'm sorry about this. What happens now is that whenever I save the value of the numeric updown control to a database the label should remain the same but after I clicked the save button it increments by 1. I don't know what is really happening here. Let's say I have a value of 50 in my numeric updown control so my label should be 50 also after I clicked save button the label should 50 but it doesn't it became 51.

I see. I'm really worried about it. I thought I downloaded a visual studio with a bug. So I should really convert that string to an integer to avoid "weak typing" haha. So vb is really assuming that as an integer.

I tried to put "haha" instead of "100" as the value of the label to try something and it gives me an exception for error conversion string to double which makes sense. Does this mean that visual studio is treating "100" as an integer?
