"Object reference not set to an instance of an object." it's because the rootelement doesn't instantiate
If I remove that cast it give me " Cannot implicitly convert xml node to xml element"

for all users I will use the first login details
for admin I will use the second login details.
Depending on which login details I use, I can do operations on the database (I have 2 separate users in the database, one limited and root)

i can't find what is locking it. I tried in another project and it works very well with my initial code. Now I have updated my question with some piece of code that downloads some files. Do you see something that could get stuck in locking state?

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your comment. The file isn't opened in any other application.
I tried to open the file in word, to see it richtextbox locks the file completely...

Yes, I could open the file in word, while it was opened in my form...
As I said , I think it's about the handle
From MSDN Documentation:
"The LoadFile method will not open a file until a handle is created for the RichTextBox. Ensure that the control's handle is created before calling the LoadFile method."
