Michael Haines - Professional Profile

I sold my first program at age 13 on a VIC20 cassette.

Starting at age 19, I have worked mostly in technology for the Transportation/Travel industry, with minor stints in municipal government, marketing and credit card processing.

I was assimilated by EDS and Andersen Consulting, but managed to escape.

I hung tapes in operations at Eastern Airlines, analyzed mainframe security for EDS, bought and sold PCs for Ryder, while automating ALL of these jobs with software I wrote.

I am too young to be a mainframe developer, and I was once told that at a job interview. I can do Cobol and I have a strong background in other mainframe tools such as REXX, TSO, Netview, and ISPF dialog management.

I tried RPG on an AS400, but ran away fast as I could.

I did my own company for years, but I like to eat between projects.

I provided U.S. consulting for an offshore (India) development shop, meaning I re-wrote all the software they screwed up (most of it).

I wrote a kick-ass system monitoring tool in Java, and designed a current competitor's Java based system.

Every MAC I have ever touched, crashed - seriously! So much for being crash-proof.

I wrote community news for the Miami Herald.

I fished in a national fishing tournament trail with a victory and several top-ten finishes to my credit. I spent five years out of the technology industry guiding clients to spectacular inshore fishing, while clearing the technology cobwebs out of my head.

I am currently writing solutions for travel agencies and loving it. I am becoming well versed with .NET, and I am happy to just be writing code.
