Out of curiosity, how much did you pay? I am working with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 so I answered the survey with "3".
I am also evaluating Windows 8 again (for work this time - last time was for personal use) so the answer is still "3" on the basis I expect an operating system to be both of some use and usable.

- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

Windows 7 Pro, Windows 2008 R2 Server, Windows 2003 Server at work.

Windows 7 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro, Linux Mint, Gentoo Linux (command line only), CentOS 5, Android Tablet and Phone at home.

I do mess around with OpenVMS some but that is just a hobby Smile | :)

Company I worked for between 2005-2009 had a OpenVMS cluster. The OS just amazed me at how stable it was. Our VMS system ran under HEAVY load for over a year without a hick-up. I only went down to replace a bad tape drive, not because it messed up. I was not the VMS guy there I still did .NET but just wanted to learn more about it. I don't have a "hobbist license" yet but plan on it. Right now I just mess with VMS on free VMS account sites and have Charon AXP running on my laptop. I plan on getting a hobbyist license soon from HP. Smile | :)

I know people that have to reboot their Windows server every week or so? I think VMS has them beat Smile | :)

My last job with OpenVMS ended in 2002, and .net has paid the bills since then.

I had similar experience working with an AS/400 back in the day. Hell, they even did a couple of O/S upgrades without rebooting.

debated on selecting for those rare situations where I have to run up a VM for some development or testing for a couple weeks in a year but opted not to.

I have Windows 8, Windows XP, and Ubuntu at home. Windows 7 at work. I have Android on my cellphone and iOS on my iPad. I don't consider Android and iOS to be "worked on".

Exactly my thoughts.

At work I use SuSe Linux 11 on the workstation and Windows 7 on the laptop.

At home: Windows 7 on the home desktop, Linux Mint 14 on my personal laptop, Windows Phone 7 on my Nokia Lumia phone.

Basically:

Windows = Development machine
Because is the OS that allows me to develop to both Linux and Windows without loosing any functionality.

Linux + Windows Server = Servers

Android = Phone

Windows, Windows, Windows...

Mainly Windows 7 at home and at work. Windows 7.8/8/RT on my phone and tablet. And Windows XP for some specific customer jobs.
I praise myself lucky Windows Vista isn't in the list. I've managed to avoid it completely for all those years Smile | :)
