Try: EnumDisplaySettings, and check the dmBitsPerPel member of the DEVMODE structure.
It's all in the MSDN.
"dmBitsPerPel
Specifies the color resolution, in bits per pixel, of the display device (for example: 4 bits for 16 colors, 8 bits for 256 colors, or 16 bits for 65536 colors). Display drivers use this member, for example, in the ChangeDisplaySettings function."

Some guy here in codeproject (I don't remember who and I can't find the post either) posted the following link
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/d/c/bdccea1b-96d9-4ad9-8045-56619af95835/qtr40enud1.img, which is the link for the 1st MSDN 2003 CD image file. As you can see the file has an img extension. There are three of these files and I downloaded the first one. There is no program in my computer that recognizes these image files. I thought that the CD-Writer software (Roxio Easy CD Creater) would take care of it, but it didn't. Can anyone help me with this problem? Can one tell me the link to the MSDN 2003 download site? I tried searching on MSDN but I could not find anything about downloading MSDN 2003. I am sure that there are directions there on how to proceed after you download these image files, but I can't find anything.

Nero, doesn't work either. It does not recognize the file format. Roxio Easy CD Creator and Nero are the only two CDW programs that I have access to. I checked the header of the file and it doesn't have any information on it at all. It's all zeros.

I'm going to go ahead and use the ole programmer's saying: "It worked fine on my machine!"

Rename them to .iso. They are the same file format, just with a different extension.

Ryan and Atlantys, thank you very for your help. I am performing a write simulation right now on the image and since Nero is not giving me any errors yet, I am assuming that everything is working fine. So both of your suggestions work.
Well, it works like a charm. I opened the file with WinRar as well and everything looks great. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 
I got so upset last night because I dowloaded the first image using a 49k connection and it took me several days, only to find out that I couldn't open the file. Looking forward to 10 more days of downloading MSDN 2003.

I want to create an control panel applet with the appearence of windows XP (buttons, tabs, etc) just like the mouse applet looks like.
I have no problem creating and applet by itself but i'm not able to display the dialog () with the XP looks. I imported the RT_MANIFEST as i normally do with a dialog based app but it did not work, i went to msdn and found this page:

they mention the control panel applet but i really don't understand waht i should do, speacially the link to commoncontrol part.
My steps to create are:

Hi, I wrote a simple tcp/ip program in VC++....I have a question regarding sending data. I created a simple tcp/ip chat program where one copy of the same prog. is made a server and other copy of it is the client, and I'm able to send string messages back and forth. I wanted to know if instead of string messages I want to send data of type BYTE. I would like to send for ex. data type BYTE test [5] = 0x03 0x19 0x00 0x12 0xD5

I thought I could repalce the m_strMessage with variable "test" of type BYTE, but no luck
If you could help me out, I would greatly appericate it.

Thats simple.
Send expects a [long constant pointer to TCHAR] variable, so just putting somthing of type byte isn`t right. still, the second parameter of .Send is
a length of data to be sent, thats it in TCHARs.
So make it that way:
Suppose you have a
BYTE g_aBytes[1024];
filled with some interesting bytes and you want to send 651 of them.
just make a call like that:
iSent = m_sConnectSocket.Send((LPCTSTR) g_aBytes, 651);
here you do s old-style C cast from array of bytes to LPCTSTR. Also you expicitly tell the socket how much data you`d like to send. That`ll do the trick, unless you dont use UNICODE.
In general , from your post i see you`re not much expirienced in C++ programming. I recommend some serious reading - for example Bjane Stroustroup
C++ programming language third edition.

I need to have a vector of a class inside another class, but can't seem to get it to work:
class ca{};
class cb{

vector <ca *=""> va;
};
I included <vector> in cb.h along with ca.h but the compiler gives the following error:
d:\vectest\cb.h(3): error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '<'
Anyone know how to use vectors of one class inside of another class?
any help would be appreciated,
