There was some guy in the programming forums about a month or so back with a similar signature - he got voted 1 a lot until he removed the request for vote.

Also I think it is less obtrusive... I don't ask for a vote I ask for a rating

Not technically but in practice yes. People ask for votes meaning they hope to get 5's because at some point they'll earn MVP status. If you ask for someone to "rate your answer" on the other hand you are asking for an honest answer for how you did.

Suggestion: provide a "Pending Article" status, that allows the article to be reviewed by peers without it being officially published.
The article is submitted through the submission wizard, and you can get it through a specific URL which can be sent to others for review. It is not included in the category list, front page, search, newsletter etc., it is not votable, and maybe allows feedback only through direct mail.
Article gets ublished through clicking "Publish Now" or something similar.

I don't think this needs to be a CP feature. People can always use their blog or their personal website for the beta draft of the article. And once they are satisfied that it's good enough for CP, they can publish it here (and elsewhere).

I assume that t's "not hard to do" (but probably that "don't list anywere" part might make it mpore trouble than it's worth).
I still think it would work smoother. It might make "having your article checked" a normal step in publishing articles. And I guess the crowd would call for "noobs can't fully-publish immediately" which sounds good to me (but I don't know if CP wants it).
Besides, I do edit my articles already with the CP template, publishing on my own site would feel awkward.

Articles are deleted if they are deemed unsuitable for publishing, either because of plagarism, poor content, or it being unsuitable for CodeProject. New articles will be commented on and voted fairly quickly and we usually leave time for the community to comment and the author to make updates or changes based on feedback before an article is removed.
Whenever an article is removed an email is sent explaining the reasons.

Copyright violations may make CP Team to take down the article immediately. However, votes of users might rate the article up or take it down to Purgatory. The article remains in Purgatory for a while.

The message voting has been dragging today, and most of the time it doesn't even register my vote. Is CP updating the voting system?

Nope. Probably just load or sleepy servers.
Normally in this case the entire site would be a little slow. Strange that it's only the voting. It could be a single server is playing up and you happen to be stuck on it.

Personally I have no clue what the various smileys mean. And in order to find out I have to go to a post screen and hover. Perhaps the code that inserts them could also insert the title and tag so user agents could give lorons like myself a hint?

html and xhtml standards require the alt attribute and the title attribute is a nice option. Besides, I still have to look. Picking one is easy (there are description to select them) the hard part is reading a post and guessing what someone means by them. The real problem is that the text is autoreplaced meaning that I have to get fancy : ) to do what I want.

Firstly nothing here is xhtml and html dictate nothing of the sort. NExt over time you will get to understand what the different ones mean.

If someone interprets a smiley differently from it's intended meaning then it is ineffective. A solution might be to have words associated with the smiley, as suggested, but then it would be more effective to simply use the words, which would be less ambiguous.
Words have specific meanings defined in dictionaries. Smileys are subject to interpretaion that is not standardized.

Hi,
Would it be possible to mark a reply as a solution to the question posted ? I know that one can rate that post, but it does not mean that it is an answer to the question posted. I believe, that answers may be highlighted (with some different color) so that some one interested to find the solution might jump directly to the post. This system already exists in the MSDN forums.
Will it be good enough to run these 2 systems (rating and marking as a solution) parallely ?
