Can any one solve this?
1.) I need to creat an user which can add workstation to domain but should not belong to local admin.
2.) I need to creat a user account which can only disjoin the workstation from domain but not belong to local admin.

solution to No 1.
u can create a new group by going to "computer management" and under local users and groups add the users who have those privileges to that group.
next u have to go to local security policies, and look at the user rights assignment, theres a policy that states "add workstations to domain" click on it and add the group to the policy
solution to No 2.
the same process implies here, except i couldnt find a proper policy that states "unjoin/disjoin a workstation from the domain". maybe a pro will be able to help.
are we able to create our own policies, if so, how?

Hi all
I am using VB 6.0 and trying to use SetForeGroundWindow() API in Windows XP . But the API's behavior seems to be different from Non XP OS , because the minimized Application window gets the focus btu waits for a mouse click to come to fore ground . Is there anyway to make the Application window to come to forground straight away ?

Read the docs on SetForegroundWindow(), they go into great detail about the restrictions on when you can change the foreground window.

Hi guys,
we have a server here that runs "Windows 2003 server" and our client machines are running "Windows XP Pro".
currently we dont have an SMS system but we do have plans to invest in one.
However for the meantime, we are trying to use logon scripts to deploy patches, updates and also some standardized settings for the client, okay here is the problem, I'm totally new in this field and im not a pro in scripting, prob some basics just to start off, im a look and learn kind off person..so if anyone could like recommend me an online site which could show some examples of scripts and also be able to teach me.
also. this one is a pain, the previous system admin kinda forgot the Symantec Server "options password". Any idea on how i can find out the password using some kind of tool or maybe the registry.

As far as I know to be standardize feature for every client in the client/server platform, we used group policies to manage from the server. If you are new to group policies try to read introduction to group policies in windows server 2003[^] or try to check desktop deployment.[^]

great job on the reccomendation, the site serves its purpose.
as for group policies i'll have to look into that, however im afraid it mite not be what i want. the org here implements a set of their own policies, not what is there by default, but maybe, are we able to add our own policies to the list in group policies?

Not sure on your scripting website but there is an excellent book on WMI publised by Microsoft that talks about various system scripting. As for Symantec, I there there is a password reset tool on the CD. I know I have used one with the Symantec System Console MMC when I forgot a password before. If this is the for the SSC and you can't find it, let me know and I can see if I can locate it.

I have been observing this syndrome in my system over the past couple of days. Whatever file click on my desktop (typically HTML and other files openable with MSIE) seems to freeze the system for typically periods ranging upto 4 seconds). Nothing other than Ctrl + Alt +Delete and Alt + Tab works.
Also, Start -> Run -> control or Control Panel hangs the system.
Occasionally I also observed MDM.EXE eating up more CPU cycles in TaskManager.
Can you please assist me in narrowing down at what application/dll which is causing the system to crawl and particularly I think IE openable and System files, I apprehend?

I am looking for recommendations for a FTP server(s) that will support FTP, SFTP, and FTPS.
Open source or free would be best but I am willing to consider a commercial product.
Basically I am looking for something easy to manage and replace the existing Microsoft FTP server on a Windows 2000 node.

hey.
some features i put in the registry in current user... how can i make those things global for all users. i tryed putting them in local machine but a lot of the things didnt work when i moved them there. this is kind of urgent.
i hope there is a way to make all this stuff global. i'm looking around hkey_users right now.

Have you written your program that uses the regisry?
If so, have you changed the source to look for the registry values in LOCAL_MACHINE instead of CURRENT_USER?
Have you noticed that limmited user accounts do not have full access to LOCAL_MACHINE?

What do you mean by some feature? Is it possible to configure using the interface? If so, I think you should configure in the user profile and make it as a template to be available for all user.

Hi, I have the script from here[^] to list all drive (removable drive, hard disk drive and mapped network drive) in MS-DOS command prompt. But I notes that when i first log on to my windows xp, the mapped network drive is not connect by default to the resources. So when I run the command it just display the removeable drive and hard disk drive. Until I try to access my mapped network drive to make it activate then when i run the script it could display the mapped network drive. From here, my question is: Are there any way to activiate the connectivity of mapped network drive during the time that I log on to my profile in order to display all drive in MS-DOS without activate it manually?

HELP!!!
While i was building/testing an ActiveX control to be used in my MS Access form, i ACCIDENTALLY UN-Registered an existing ActiveX control.
In Access, I chose Tools | ActiveX Controls and then by accident, I Unregistered the first entry list for me:
:-) VideoSoft FlexArray Control
After re- Registering this (C:\WINNT\System32\vsFlex3.ocx), i now get the error message:
The OLE server isn't registered.<br />
To register the OLE server, reinstall it.<br />
and subsequent tries gives the error:
A problem occurred while Microsoft Access was communicating with the OLE server or ActiveX Control. Close the OLE server and restart it outside of Microsoft Access. Then try the original operation again in Microsoft Access.
How do I reinstall the OLE server?
Reinstalling Office didn't help.
I'm using Office 2000, Premium, creating my ActiveX control in VB6 (was going ok prior to accident.)

I think the first suggested link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;896865[^] is something that needs to be done, but not sure if this "exact" example is what will do it.
I'm also looking at all instances of the deleted OCX in the Registery and comparing that with an "uncorrupted PC" - comparing values, instances, etc. This is very tedious.

Anyone knows how to configure BITS on a Win2Ksp3 machine?
On a Win2003 machine, I managed to configure a virtual directory to accept BITS uploads (from virtual directory properties, then 'BITS Server Extensions' tab). However, after installing the BITS redistributable on the Win2Ksp3 machine, I cannot find the 'BITS Server Extension' tab in the virtual directory properties.
Any ideas anyone?
