A few day ago, I was having a go at BAs. Today it's coders.
We have a monitoring tool which sends out email alerts whenever our server resources reach certain thresholds. Sometimes they're meaningful and useful - and we can get something done about the issue. And sometimes they mean absolutely zero to us!
But, hey! At the bottom of every alert, there's an "Additional information" section. And, without exception, that always says: "This information has been generated by the XYZ Manager". Yep! That's it. Nothing else. Nada!
Designed by a coder?

Don't bash the coder. Bash the consultant who designed the specs...
I mean, it worked, didn't it, so there's nothing wrong with the coding!

It probably went something like this:
Business Analyst: "Could you add an 'Additional information' section?"
Coder: Does nothing.
Tester: "The BA said there should be an 'Additional information' section, so I've failed this"
Coder: <tr><td>Additional information</td></tr><tr><td>This is the additional information!</td></tr>
Tester: "Passed. Release it."

I would be thankful for such "crumbs."
The first time I saw this, I would ask someone for details on who/what XYZManager is. Then, assuming there is some/one/group I could contact, I would send them a message suggesting improvements.
If there was no one who could change the code, or, I found out the code could not be changed, or, if my message was not responded to, then ...
If I were an underpaid, frustrated, micro-serf, and, raising hell would achieve nothing, I might write a post, like this one, on CodeProject

Designed on the spur of the moment to resolve an immediate need and never revisited by the coder. Such is the birth of an open source project. Alas, the source was lost by the PHB.

If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

Copy and paste ... but couldn't think of anything for the Additional Information section.

If trains drive you crazy, do they have a loco motive?
TotD is going to take a holiday for a while - I'm not sure how long - as I've been doing them almost every weekday for over six years now (The First[^]) and I'm getting a little "punned out" so I have decided to take a break. The end of a month seemed like an appropriate point to rest up!
So, I'd just like to say "thank you" to everyone who has responded (with some truly groan-worthy puns over the years) you have brightened my afternoons!

This sounds terminal, it's going to be tough making the switch. It's had a good track record and I'm a freight I'll miss these puns.
PS thanks for posting these.
PPS I wonder how peoples penchant for puns is going to manifest itself on this site?

So, you have come to the end of the track. It has been fun, but I'm glad you haven't gone off the rails.
