Yes true, and thanks for blaming me. I find all this also, but _what exactly _ Excel is using?
And in case you think you know everything, than please explain which algo I have to use that my original Points are in the smooth function....
Google I can do by myself, but get the real Background is sometimes more than just a Little bit googling and copy&paste...

I'm aware that Mr. Marc Clifton is an authority and that his information/tips are very helpful! I read most of his articles and enjoy them and are thankful for them.

I'm LMAO reading the replies. My reply to Bill was specifically meant for Bill as he was wishing there were some C# implementations. I was actually surprised how little how I found googling around.

Well duh, I wasn't googling for what algo Excel was specifically using, just trying to find if someone, say on github, had done a broad implementation of several algorithms. Never came up with anything, though I imagine in Python/Numpy they exist.

Mileage may vary...I've really not had any problems with Windows networking, aside from VMs which can be a pain.

It seems to be caching a lot of stuff because when you change something it takes minutes to get a connection.
You get endless progress bar, across the address field in explorer, followed b the useless 'diagnose' choice.
even after flushing the DNS cache, because my two test machines have the same ip address (makes testing easier when I switch between them), windows thinks it knows about the connection but can't access it (probably because the option 'let windows manage' got enabled.
Then you have the ridiculous inability to switch a network from private, to public, or work. In fact how the hell does an IP link even HAVE these sub types? It doesnt. This is windows trying to be clever and limit access. And when software tries to be clever it goes wrong. And it is painfully slow to find a machine on the network. You should try linux. It really is immediate.

That's probably the problem - Windows is trying to ensure that the machine at the other end is exactly the one it thinks it is.
I have no problems with it, and I've got 2 Win10 devices, 1 Win XP desktop, 5 Android (or 7 if I count the Amazon and Google TV devices - and I probably should), two linux based NASes and a gawd-knows-what based printer on my network. Plus the router. All the shares work fine, all access to SQL is fine, it just works.
Maybe that's because I don't play silly buggers with my IP addresses?

That is just todays problem, and it wouldnt be if it didnt frigging cache it somewhere). My main grips is the time it takes, and frequent failure, to even access devices on the network. Hell, it does this even trying to open a local folder sometimes. You must have seen the blue progress bar in explorer surely?

You could try (with an elevated-rights command line)
arp -d ip_address
and see if that helps. ARP table maintains a sort of dictionary between mac addresses and ip addresses. If your test machines do not have the same mac address, this can cause some troubles.
Depending on your network drivers, you could also try to give both interfaces on test machines the same mac address.
