Just saying you might want to be careful about that. The country has some strong 'opinions' on what is allowed, and legal systems in general are not great fans of attempts to circumvent what is allowed.

Most of them cause me moderate to serious head-scratching, but occasionally there is one like that that just leaps out at me.
I now have 23 hours to think of something...

As I said in my recent report( The Lounge[^] ) I'm running Creators update.
Now, I just tried to open a command window by holding shift and right-clicking a folder in Windows Explorer. Well, they removed it.
Here's the image of my choices now:
Command Window gone[^]
Yes, it's replaced with a choice to open Powershell.
I'd had heard rumors about Powershell completely replacing the Console but knew that wasn't going to be the case. However, they're making it more difficult to get to the console window.
Also, I know I can edit the registry to add this back in. It's so exciting to add functionality back in, Microsoft.
I like this option because it places you immediately in the correct directory.
Yes, you can still right-click the start menu and get to the Console there.
Thanks, Microsoft, you've changed my UX -

I prefer using Quick Launch (Win 7).
However, at work, I often have to run things (VS, SSMS, etc.) as other users (service accounts) so I have written a simple little WinForms app that provides me a matrix of buttons so I can choose the app (including console) and the user.

Perhaps it should be named as "Command Window Destroyer's Update" instead of "Creator's Update".

In the address bar, type cmd then press enter. Does this still open the command window in the current directory?

Yes, it does! I've never heard of that trick before. I wish I had know that years ago. Thank You.

Now please don't tell me that has been there since Windows 95.

It's been there for a long time. If I'd realised people didn't know this trick, I'd have posted it a long time back.

That has been there since Windows 95... oops, sorry!

This doesn't work if you are browsing a UNC location - it defaults back to C:\Windows

Indeed, but that's down to a failure to properly support UNC paths in cmd. I believe there's a registry hack to get UNC support in cmd, but I can't be 100% certain that it works properly.

Oh, if only they had known about pushd "%~d0" - if they'd used that in the right way in the command file, it would have worked.

I'm pretty sure the subsets of people who cared about WTF the script was doing, and those capable of finding that fix via Google were non-overlapping sets.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
