After a longer break, I have begun working on my next helicopter again. It's a model of a Bell UH-1B, but I will try to pass it off as this 'Echo' model.[^]
The mechanical part is an older T-Rex 450 (still with paddles). It has already be modified and mounted inside the body. Now I'm adding all kinds of details, like panels, antennae. air intakes or door hinges. Some real model building for a change and even more fun is coming up: Adding hundreds of rivets.

I still am looking for a way to make the weapons and their mounts. I want a gunship, not a 'Slick'. This will probably be a good excuse to play with a 3D printer.

I was going to say I was surprised that you hadn't 3d printed the whole body shell (complete with rivets), but then I realized just how much work digitising the shape would be in the first place.

It is, but it will make a great difference after painting. All those little details will become visible after 'weathering' the paint.
3D printing the whole thing would be quite expensive, even if you already have a complete 3D model. I have seen the weapons in scale 1:7 (too large for my purposes and also too modern for a gunship from 1967) for about 300€ per piece, plus the right and left mount for a similar price each.
A model this size always is terribly expensive and those parts were done really well with every detail, but printing the whole body would really cost you a little.

People should stop worrying about what is appropriate for what ages.
If this guy did what "people" somehow want him to do he'd retired at 65, do nothing, and die of boredom old age somewhere in his 80's...

If he is able to keep working and wants to, by all means let him! The fact that he is 102 means nothing (other than to the bureaucrats who seem to think that old age == inability to work).

Hi,
We know about the Lorry Loading Problem!
Lorry with Cubic Size L-W-H Dimensions, and Load Capacity, and various sizes of Boxes, of various weight, all going to the same Destination. It has been shown(by someone, so have I been told) that this has No Analytic Solution, but that approximation algorithms exist. (That is, algorithms that get it right Most, but not All of the time)
I have a Similar (much smaller) Problem. I want to Print a Number of Orders in fixed pitch font on A4 Pages. The orders have each Different Number of lines, and we want to organise the printing in such a way that the minimum amount of paper is used.
We Know how many lines will fit on a Page. (say 80)
Any ideas on how to approach this by form of algorithm?
No, this is not an exam question. I do no longer sit exams! When I went to University 45 years ago, Computer studies did not exist.
I am just a self taught programmer, who is getting stuck.
Any help or pointer to literature is appreciated.

Without using a neural network, which this problem is designed for, I would get the largest order for the available space, or put the largest orders on each page then fill the rest with smaller orders.
This does not take into account that 2 medium sized orders may be a better fit than a large + a small order. That is where the neural network would do a good job.
And I think this should probably be in a forum other than the Lounge

That is helpful, I had been thinking along the same lines myself. I do not think that a neural network would be justified, it is just that that solution you describe, sometimes gives stupid results.
It is all te same a not uncommon problem. I had hoped that someone smart somewhere would have written something smart about this.
About the choice of Forum: Suggest another please?
