I would recommend Linux Mint[^]. I had this one installed exclusively (no windows) on my home PC for 2 year about 5 years ago. It's based on Ubuntu so lots of packages and nice tools to install & update. I see it has become the most popular distro on distrowatch.com[^] since then. Definitely worth a look.

My little part of the world (Long Island, NY) is expecting 20"-30" (30cm - 45cm) snow in the next 36 hours. Winds, 40+mpg, gusts to 60mph (roughly, >65km/h, 100km/h, respectively)
Assuredly, I'll be snowed indoors on Tuesday and it'll be pointless to start digging out until Wednesday. Then there's digging out.
So screwed. So very very screwed. If the electricity should fail, being screwed will be the best part of it.
Once again, I remember why I regret not being born rich.

You'll find that 20 to 30 inches isn't 30 to 45 cms! It's 51 to 76cms. So you're even more screwed!!

Whatever happens I doubt you top the snowfall[^] in the Norwegian mountains. Although we didn't have a storm to fallow the snowfall.

Since I think people who winter in places like Canada (and Wisconsin) are qutie out of there minds, you could imagine what I'd say about the Norwegian mountain dwellers.

I totally agree, although I get very uncomfortable if it get above 25 degree. Celsius that is not Fahrenheit
However, the depth of the snowfall is about 3-4 meters here. The problem is that the roofs starts to collapse.
