As with everything Microsoft the answer is so simple:
32 bit DLLs need to be placed into Windows\SysWOW64 rather than Windows\System32.
So obvious really.

I just love the idea that a folder with '32' in the name is for 64 bit stuff, and a folder with 64 in the name is for 32 bit stuff. Of course, it may be more subtle than that.

Having found the answer I Googled SYSWoW64 and found some interesting facts; apparently SysWOW64 is an abbreviation of "SYStem32 Windows On Windows 64. As my boss used to say, "Go figure"!

Hello all,
Everything worked some days ago...
Environment:
* 2x "windows 7 ultimate SP1" computers.
* Both computers can connect different computers out there with windows XP.
* Both computers can share files using shared folders.
* Both computers can't connect to each other using remote desktop.
* Both computers have the same users.
* Both computers don't show the options:
** Don't allow connections to this computer.
** Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure).
** Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure).
** Select users button.

* the same result with the firewall and antivirus completely disabled.
* No domain involved.
Question:
What could you suggest me to get this working?

Is it a "Home" version of Windows 7 running on those computers? Home versions cannot be connected to via RDP.
If not, are they computers in a domain? Then check group policies.

We have two services: a "license" server service and a "main" server service. The main server depends on the license server - it must get a license at startup.
Often, the main server stops when trying to start it because it cannot get a license from the license server which is not yet running. But the main server is configured to depend on the license server - that can also be seen in the dependencies tab of the services.
And that seems not to work: also the event viewer shows that the main server was started before the license server...
How can I enforce the start of the license server before the start of the main server?

Hi,
I have installed Virtual Machine and I am running Win XP in the VM Player. But I am unable to connect to the Host machine in anyways. Like
1. I am unable to use host computers USB Pendrive, it is not visible in the VM. And
2. I am unable to share my host machines folders with Virtual Machine.
Can anybody please help me for sharing either my host USB Pendrive or host machines folder with my virtual machine. Either of the one is ok for me. While I was creating the Virtual Machine, I didnt select the workgroup option, can it be the reason that I am unable to share folders.
My host machine is not connected to any network, but it is connected to the Internet by Wireless network. Thats why I have not choosen the work group option.
Can anybody please help me in sharing my host machine folders with VM. My host machine has windows 7 OS and VM is running with Win xp professional. Can it be the reason for this.
One more thing is that my laptop is Gateway and it has AMD processor, can it be the reason for this?
Why am I not able to share my host machines folders or USB Pendrive with VM, please help me in this regard.
And one more thing when I am starting the VM it is giving me the message
"Host USB device connections disabled. The connection to the VMware USB Arbitration Service was unsuccessful. Please check the status of this service in the Microsoft Management Console."
I googled for it, according to few links,
1. I need disconnect the USB from host machine
2. I need to delete some registry entry in regedit
3. Disable the other drivers if it has
4. Check for the AMD USB drive, delete it and install the Microsoft USB driver. But in my VM all USB drivers stated as MIcrosoft, so this also didnt work for me.
I tried all of them but didnt work. Please help me.

VM Ware can it be the cause for this? Really I am unable to connect in any way. If anybody knows it please help me.

Check:
1. Network configuration on the virtual machine.
2. Ensure that the IP addresses are in the same range.
3. The kind of connection you've chosen... Bridged works well for me...
4. Activate the virtual network card.
5. Put the two computers in the same group.
6. Permissions.
7. Install the vmware tools.
8. Burn incense, sacrifice a goat and pray to the moon.
* With vmware tools you can drag and drop files from one place to the other one making not a must to share something.

I dont know anything about networking. Is there any way that I can do the things. Its making me very upset. I have data that I want to use in VM. Unfortunately not allowing me.
Should I create a new VM by selecting all the above options. Please give me some easy solution pls.

vmware:
1. VMWARE workstation or player: bottom right of the vm, ensure the ethernet card is on.
2. main pc: control panel => network settings => write the ip, subnet mask and gate.
3. VMWARE => go to the same place and write the same values.
4. if there is an error message then we are on the right path.
5. change the last number of the IP address in one of the computers.
6. go to the VM and create a folder (the one you want to share).
7. right click the folder and select sharing...
8. share the folder, give maximum permissions to everyone.
9. depending on your configuration it is possible that you would need to create the same user that you are using in the main pc into the VM.
10. you should be able to see the two computers and copy files or whatever.
anyway, if you want to copy files to a vm it is much easier to install vmware tools and then simply drag and drop files from one machine to the other one...

Yes I am able to copy the files and folders by using drag and drop after installing the VM Tools thats really appreciable and easy instead of getting in to all these networking details.

Remote Desktop - still susceptible to Man in Middle attack?
For Windows 2008, I presume the vulnerability has been patched? (REF 2)
"In Windows Server 2008, Network Level Authentication (NLA) is designed to be secure against MITM, and it supports the ability to authenticate the server with either a SSL/TLS server certificate or Kerberos."
But it sounds like one need to be very careful with configuration ... for instance NLA don't work for scenario where connection is initiated over internet. And REF 2 doesn't discuss connection from Windows 7 or Android clients (using for example Splashtop.com). Or a service such as "www.Logmein.com"

Hello,
First of all let me specify the
SETTINGS:
RED HAT computer:
-- 1gbps ethernet card (going from 20% to 60% and getting really small peaks of 100%).
-- 1gb RAM (using a 20% max.).
-- XEON processor (don''t know which one but it is going at a 20% as much).
- XP computer:
-- 1gbps ethernet card (going at a 2% +/-).
-- 4 gb ram (xp 32 bits, using a maximum of 1gb).
-- Core 2 duo (at 20% at much).
ISSUE:
It takes from 8 to 20 minutes to copy 1.55gb of data from the REDHAT to the XP (the XP machine is the one that started the file transmission).
I'd like to get a better file sending result in terms of time/speed...
QUESTION:
Could you give me some ideas or point me to somewhere (apart of a handkerchief to cry) in order to get some ideas/advice to improve this?
