"...spend quality time with your kids and wife..."
Are you even married? A few weeks with the wife and kids and you'll be begging for your old job back.

seems like after reading thru the "other" answers that this one is a cure all

Lost my job due to economy bust. I love my old company and my old job for ten years. Company sold due to economy crunch. Oh well....

But it won't help unless servers start keeping up. I got three page load failures trying to submit my response.

Exactly. My ~ 18MBit comcast connection does not help with slow page loads from gmail or codeproject.

I'm good with my Verizon FiOS 20/20 service here.
50/50 would be cool but I have yet to saturate what I have now to really care.

making mistakes and doing research is part of the process of learning. If you mastered everything right away you learn nothing along that path at all and never really expand.
Come on folks... don't be so afraid to make mistakes, it's all part of the discovery process. In fact mistakes reinforce the key learning's in our mind. The worse the mistake the more we dig and the more we remember because of it.
man, getting it ALL right out of the chute would be as boring as hell.

You are entirely right, not forgetting the pleasure of learning and discovering in itself, mistakes or not!

Yes, but that would fall under "mastering" the subject.

That would do it for me. Although I would still program in my retirement. Even from the beach. I wonder how hard it is to immigrate to the Mexican Caribbean.

That was my other! Granted a lot of folks who win end up worse off, but I would like to take that chance.

We've been bogged down with so many processes, reviews, other initiatives, doing the job I wasn't trained for, or do the job for the co-workers who quit to go somewhere they can work, that I hardly get to do what I do best, Software...Software design, coding, debugging, integration on the hardware...the fun stuff.
Right now, I'm working on a document commanded by the process that will only be looked at once, at signature time, and then set aside. It's suppose to help me plan out my software. The bosses, who don't understand software, have to make sure I've thought about my software and this document is suppose to show that. However, over the years, I've learn shortcuts and various ways of planing, describing, designing my work for myself that are easier and quicker. No one else works on the stuff I work on so I don't need to simplify for anyone.
Merry Christmas to all and to all, a good byte!

Seeing as how fickle humans are do you ever wonder that, if we were to finally achieve world peace, that we would immediately begin wishing for World War as an ideal? I'm just sayin'... this is humans we're talking about.

I have added it as a text answer:
Peace (Mental Peace and World Peace).
Without 'Peace' everything is shattered into pieces right?

I couldn't stop ticking till the end while imagining how would it feel if every single item in that list would come to fruition... Probably bad, as there would be nothing to hope for the next year (-.

And I did not click any and had to use a write in.
For me the economy has been good. Got the great $400 deal on the core2 qaud Q9550 + p5qpro + antec 650 80+ PS + 6GB of quality memory last November with the 35% live.com cashback. Not hurting at all in the social life. I did not get a raise this year for the first time since 1994 but then again I had a > 40% return on my stock investments (yes I did buy 18K in stock in March at the low).
Ahh. I missed one. End of software patents
