Let's start THAT company.

My company (shameless plug http://www.monsanto.com) was ranked #26 in CompuWorld Top 100 places to work for IT Professionals.

Code Project article editor is a job just made for a web programmer with an English Masters like me. If only they didn't need someone in Toronto! Surely in this day and age, I could telework?
Oh well. As someone else said, it's not always the companies that are the problem, but the locations. (Mind you, I wasn't crazy about working for Microsoft when I did, and it wasn't because they were in Dublin...)

The producers of the abomination known as Lotus Notes? Pfft, they really should just close their doors just because of that.
I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:

Very funny!
People mostly like to work in CP, rather thatn HP, Apple, ...
I liked it, if it was not web programming. I believe, it would not be a bad idea to employ some one just to research and write articles. Just an idea.

I don't get the feeling they're short of people willing to research and write articles - for free!

shouldn't this poll be multiple choice ?
i'd like (for now at least) to work for several of these companies, so, how can i select only one ?

If you simultaneously get offers from multiple companies (from the above list), you'd only be able to accept one offer - and you'd probably go for the one you want most of all. This poll (I think) attempts to figure out which company (from the list) would be the most preferred employer.
I am surprised (just a little) that more people want to work for Google than for Microsoft (considering that most CPians who vote would primarily be people working on MS-technologies).

Perhaps that is precisely why they wouldn't if you look it at anther angle.

I'd love to work for either, but if I had an offer letter from both, I'd rather work for google, because of how they threat their employees (based on rumors). the whole "personal time" at work thing is very forward thinking...

Well, speaking for myself, I've already worked for Microsoft, so I don't feel a pressing need to go back there.
As for other people, maybe Google feels more exciting, like somewhere you'd get to work with really new technology, rather than trying to make legacy Microsoft code pretend it's new? Having said that, Microsoft isn't doing too badly compared to all the other companies...

Microsoft's famous for providing free soda. Google's famous for providing free gourmet meals...

While I have worked for all of these companies... none is what I would call the "epitome" of a good company to work for.
Almost every large company is there to do one thing - make money - at the expense of everything else. If you believe other wise, work for a company that is not making money and you will see exactly what happens. ( I have been there done that as well )
With that said, the best you can hope for is to be treated with respect, dignity and hopefully have somebody who actually cares about you, possibly your career, and that you get something to work on that is remotely interesting - now that would be truly a great place to work (silver bullet anyone??)
my 2 cents

My own company.

Did my 6 years with them and besides a nice mark on the Resume I did not enjoy it.
I found that they were very 'ra ra' but when push comes to shove they were stuck in analysis paralysis. Not one move was made unless they 'tried' to justify it 8 ways to Sunday.

There should be an option "My current company", which is CP!!!
So, my vote should count twice for CP

I guess the meaning of My own company is not the same as my current company that I work for.
If you want your vote count twice, you should own codeproject.com
Yes, I want to work for codeproject, too, so my vote will be, if it's multi-choice, codeproject, or my own company.
Goo.. Micr.. will never be my choice. :->

I've done the 'own company' thing and never really enjoyed it. 'Code Project' would be nice but I've always really fancied working for the big MS. My skill levels are no where up to the standard that would be required, but I've always thought it would be interesting to have my code used on every Windows desktop machine in the world.
