When I was 8 I very nearly took my right eye out with a pocket knife. I wound up slicing the adjacent tear duct in half and bruising it instead.
However, ever since then I thought if I ever have to have my eye replaced I want glass ones with designs on them.

Seeing my new granddaughter, she's due on Dec. 15.
And reassuring her 2 year old brother he's still Poppy's boy.

And that doesn't qualify as "Spending time with family and/or friends (safely) / the cat / a good book"???

I'm retired, I don't get any days off.
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

Funny, my Dad said he got 365 days per year of vacation.

I'm pretty sure he got 366 days of vacation this year!

I am already having the kids at home since 2 weeks ago and won't be coming back to the kindergarten this year. (quarentined and just for a week... we won't be bringing them back)
Quality time... I always try to have quality time with them, not because the end of the year or whatever other reason.
It actually stress me out (and my wife even more) the whole "Be happy / good because it is christmas" and the associated consumism. I already try my best during the day by day, as a matter of principles.
The biggest difference will be, during those two weeks both of us will be at home at the same time (until now we have to make shifts to take care of the kids, so when she is at home I work and viceversa), what will give me some time to do some house ToDo-Points.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you

Since we are in a stupidly implemented lockdown again since November: freedom to move in the same township (several hundred squared kilometers for the big cities) but not across townships, so I will probably not be able to see my parents. Considering we already see each other monthly, that's a huge hit.
Idiotic administration aside, I will sleep in, cook with my wife, overeat and play a freakton of videogames, planning on ODing on Cyberpunk 2077 hoping it won't suck.

For the couple of extra days off (25th Dec, 1st January) there's not much difference than any other long weekend.
If my new webcam finally arrives (Logitec is back and pricing returning to normal) I'll see about some extra zoom-time with progeny (and their progeny).
Won't do: watch broadcast TV - it's the seasonal blitz of heartwarming reruns. "My eyes! My eyes!".
Perhaps trying to get my first orb, ever, in the Dungeon Crawl, or, as usual, die trying.

And that makes you what?
Clever? Nope.
Brave? Nope.
Defiant and independent? Very much nope!
A patriot? Hardly. There are nearly 300,000 who'd tell you so if they were still alive.
Selfish? That's more like it - showing your true holiday spirit.

I'll do what I do every year, pick a game and pretend I'm 15 again
Sleeping in until somewhere at noon and then play my game until somewhere late at night (which is more like my natural rhythm than my usual sleep schedule).
Last year I've played Ni Nu Kuni non-stop, NieR: Automata before that and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age before that.
This year it's going to be Trials of Mana!
Made possible by not having a significant other and/or kids
