Microsoft a technology company? Who are you kidding! What have they invented? Duh, let me see, all of it bought.

Microsoft is not a clear winner (IMHO) or maybe even winner.but are you an Apple fanboy? just asking

I think in this case... it's just a reflection of the demographics of this particular site. A majority of developers on this site are MS focused developers. I'm sure you'd get different results on the same survey in say, SO... or heck, the Ubuntu forums.

Most of those companies wouldn't be where they're at without Micron memory!

I can't believe you forgot this option.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Because they wrote their entire app in PHP, so they are considered an anti-technology company.
Am I funny yet?
Seriously, though...PHP?

Well, that thing is certainly a money maker for them but that's not the only thing they do After all they created Open Compute Project[^] and a lot of other open source stuff.

I agree with you. It is amazing that they've taken the technology as far as they have and that they've been able to make so much money from the FB site. Plus the committment to open source is definitely admirable.

Not trying to defend PHP (or Facebook's use of it, for that matter), but they have done some really cool stuff with it to make it better, such as this[^].
The United States invariably does the right thing, after having exhausted every other alternative. -Winston Churchill
America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between. -Oscar Wilde
Wow, even the French showed a little more spine than that before they got their sh*t pushed in.[^] -Colin Mullikin

That's pretty cool stuff. The one good thing about PHP is that it is alot of fun to do some simple things.

That would get my vote.

My favorite[^] for a few decades, since National Semiconductor ceased to be doing much. I don't even know if they still exist, but National published the best reference data of all for a long time. TI and Analog have taken over that niche, I think...

..what with all the mistakes, weird decisions, bugs and security problems, the disaster(s) of Windows 8/8.1 and Windows Phone (thankfully inhaling it's last few breaths having killed off the only manufacturer 100% backing it), unfinished/unpolished products (the eighty-five-percent-ers as I call them - 85% complete to a reasonable level, botch the rest and ship it regardless)?
I could have understood any of the other companies being popular, but I've been let down by Microsoft more than any other technology company.

On the other hand, most of the people here (myself included) have made their living from MS - dumb to bite the hand, etc.

Microsoft screws the stuff up so that we __ the genius technology consultants __ can fix the crap and get paid. They can't say it out loud.
For example, with Windows 10 there will be multitudinous "challenges" which can only be resolved by skilled (paid) workers. That is where we will fly in and create crappy solutions on top of the crappy OS.
It's a wonderful food chain.
User: I can't...
Skilled Laborer: Of course you can't, but I wrote a PowerShell script which...

If that is the only reason that you are voting for Microsoft then you have lost your passion in the industry. I suggest you look elsewhere for the multitudes of other more exciting technologies out there.
