... That there has to be a "Bacon" option in CP surveys?
I looked and I looked, but ended up having to go with my second choice.

Not just any beer, but really good beer. Bacon is second pick.
In this case I would say Beer>Bacon

Yeah!! I agree.
With money, you can buy other items listed in options.

By getting a new job at a different company earlier this month, I received many of the choices in the list:
- A pay raise *and* promotion
- better work / life balance
- A new handheld (smartphone, tablet, phablet etc)
- A bigger, badder dev machine
- The chance to learn and use a different language or platform
- Job security
- More say in the decisions at work
- Health and fitness gear

Well I bought a new rig last Christmas, haven't' seen the progress cursor in a while. 6 core Xeon.
I have no desire to upgrade my iPhone 4, I have no clue way, wanted a giant Samsung last year.
This has been the best month since 2007, sold a lot of jobs this month, plus more on the way.
Everybody is healthy with family and friends.
Just want a couple of new bowling balls, going back to basics with more simpler and time proven designs. Yes; they are rocket science, designed by aeronautic engineers.
Just got this Saturday, works great, should of bought the original years ago.

The original version, 6 years on the market, still going strong, usually there like cell phones, 6 months at most and replaced with something else. It's that good.

And the solid version perhaps, probably won't use it much, not enough oil on the lanes, good for bowling in Vegas.

I've been bowling for 7 years now, 2 or 3 times a week. Got hooked on it, sort of like golf. Sports don't come natural to me, but I took the time to get really good at it.
Merry Christmas all, and let's not forget the other holidays as well. Oh, I gave up on being politically correct decades ago.

Seriously - I can't stand the news these days. People's favorite activity seems to be killing each other

Yes, and we can achieve world peace only by killing those people.

I think that perception is caused by the media (news), we have been slaughtering each other for centuries it is just that, in the past, unless it was in your neighbourhood you never heard about it.

Indeed. Also with the media today we can hear about groups thousands of miles away who don't break their eggs the right way.

I see that wanting a better work life / home life balance is in the lead.
How could this be changed? Is it due to poor project management, poor estimation, poor management of expectation, all of the above?
There will always be those times when extra effort is required, but if this is continual then it indicates that something somewhere is broken.
I remember one of my previous managers being adamant that regular overtime was indicative of a poorly performing team.
