How about "Zamboni Driver"?
For those unfamilar with this piece of high tech machinery try this site. It will explain all
www.zamboni.com

Why am I so amazed that there's a site for this ...
It has taken a few years for the idea to actually take hold in my brain, but when ever anybody asks me a question like, "Do you know something about .....?" or "Has anybody ever seen a ....?", my natural reaction is now to just type away 'www.somearcanething.com' and BAM. More often than nought there's a site explaining all
It seems ludicrous at times, others even hilarious (like the time someone wanted to know the difference between sherry and brandy, boy did I get a lot of JPG sites ROTFL). But yes the Internet can provide answers to just about any question you wish to ask.

Or how about, "High Salary Programming-Only Job"?
Is there such a thing? All my friends who work their way up the salary scale in programming jobs tend to slowly, but surely, move away from programming and into more management, design or business related activities. One year they are coders living on the edge, then suddenly they find themselves in suits and wondering what this whole XML thing is all about.

I kind of doubt that there is such a thing, but it would be my "dream job"!

I partially take that back. A little bit of design and concept work is nice, too. (Just not too much.)

Oooooooooohhh !!!
management ... (insert vomiting sound here)...
I really hate that part... It's all about dealing with money and papers...

Ahh, but sometimes you win and get to come full circle.
I started out as a programmer/analyst, and went the traditional route that you described (senior analyst->programming manager->technical support manager->computer centre manager->consultant->senior consultant).
Then, lo and behold, I joined a small company, initially as a consultant, but I have now come back full circle into doing software development on a nearly full-time basis. I get to play with the new toys, be creative, write code and be happier than a pig in the proverbial.
I love being a techie.
Cheers

Better yet, "High Salary Programming-Only Job, Debugging Optional" ?

Followed immediately by "having no sleep for 6 months"
What's the feeling on working for startups nowadays? Since the "correction" to tech stocks earlier in the year it seems a far riskier and possibly less rewarding business getting involved in startups.

> Followed immediately by "having no sleep for 6 months"
I have to disagree with that Chris. It's my experience that you do get sleep the first 3 months. It that 6 months after that, which have no sleep!
Seriously - while looking for my last job, I opted for one which was more challanging and had a better atmosphere. And that's exactly what I got in a startup. If I cash out - that's a great bonus, but that's all it is IMHO.

There's lots of dot bombing going on here in the Bay Area now... kinda cool as far as I'm concerned... maybe some people will move elsewhere and there might actually be some housing available... naaah.
My fav job type isn't listed there either, then again, I don't call this an IT job, as I consider that corporate internal stuff. I love working in commercial software development, as I can measure my worth at the end of the day by how much we sold.
There's still lots of good start-ups out there (this is definately one of them, and I don't mean my goofing around alias, miwasoft.com). Just all the people who went for the hope of easy money on some hair-brained startup to spend VC money are getting burned now. I'm glad I'm at a startup with no VC, and we sell a lot of software.
Of course, the good place to follow news on this is
at f***edcompany.com. (You can fill in the blanks)
