This looks interresting but how can I do something that?
It sounds like something like screen in the good old days of GW basic but I have never found this in VB.net

I want guidance for converting my excel work sheet to PDF using VB6.0

You can convert anything to PDF using PDFCreator[^] printer.
If you want to print from VB6 you will have to use the Windows API ShellExecute[^] function, passing the verb "print" to its lpOperation argument, but before you will have to make sure that PDFCreator printer is the default printer. You might want to have a look at this[^] to see how to manage the default printer.

yes!
one possibility would be:
* buy an pdf library (or use one of the .net libraries an make them com visible)
* reference the Microsoft Office ... Object Library
* use it to open excel file
* create your pdf
another possibility could had been: use google with some keywords ... for example:
activex create pdf control vb6
and, if possible, throw away vb6. It´s from 1998 ...

I need an application that waits for a sound (beep or chime) to be detected in a speaker (maybe via Direct X and sound card). When sound is detected, I want code to be run , say for now, a Msgbox pops up and says "sound dete3cted"
Thanks,
Gary

You sound like you're ordering a pizza
AFAIK, Windows doesn't raise any events when sound is played. If you only need to "detect" sound, then you might want to google for a VU meter. That would still only react to a sound-card, not the internal speaker.
Or switch the microphone on, actively listening for sounds. That's probably not a practical solution, since it would also give you background-noise.

Hi - No, it's not for pizza. I googled and was not able to find a simple way to detect sound. Would DirectX be a possibility ? I don;t know where to look for sample code.
Thanks,
Gary

There's always the CodeProject articles[^] that provide sample code.
Do you want to detect a sound that you're making yourself, or from a third party?

Hi, thanks for your interest. I believe it's a third party. I get a pop up and bell or chime rings in external speaker. I want to know it happened if I am away from my PC. I think I can write a routine to text me on my cell phone via MS Outlook when a sound is detected. So i need a routine that I can add a call to my routine to send a text message.
Thanks,
Gary

It'd be easier to watch for the popup than to detect a sound; there's multiple ways of looking whats "on screen" from code, but I haven't seen a way to listen to what's currently playing.

Hi - I can't stay glued to PC. I want to be able to move around. I have working VB code that will send me an email when triggered. The problem is I don;t have the trigger (yet). Thanks,
Gary

That does not change my previous statements, as they are based on technical limitations.
Gary99 wrote: The problem is I don;t have the trigger (yet).
Windows doesn't pull a trigger when it's playing a sound, there's no notification-mechanism that could be described as "easy". Working your way through a VUmeter-example amd adapting that would be the easy route. The DirectX example only showed how to check if a sound is finished that you started yourself - that's not the same as intercepting a playsound-command from a third-party application.
So, now that we know that you can't stay glued to your PC, and that catching sound is hard - would it be an option to look for alternatives? Might become a bit frustrating, but that makes it more fun and rewarding when one finds a relevant solution.
You said it was a sound and a popup. What application raises the notification? The popup could perhaps be identified by enumerating all windows.

The pop up flashes for a few seconds and disappears on its own. I tried w/o success to use Enumwindows and look for window title. It was never detected. Any sample code to look for a particular window title from an application I can not control ? could the pop-up be a child window of the other application and i need different API to find it ? Thanks, Gary

Hi,
I am doing a project and wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I want to within VB.Net control a printer's print queue. I want to be able to view, pause or cancel a print job e.g. sent a document to the printer at a pause state, then able to print it. Don't know if you can just view a certain user's documents as well e.g.
User Document
A Let1.doc
B Rent.doc
A Cash.xls
Able just to display
A Let1.doc
A Cash.xls
Any ideas would be gratefully appriciated.

I think that this sits very much in the WMI arena.
Have a search on google for WMI Printer Queue scripts, and then start to research this subject.
If you also search for WMI VB.NET you will get examples of how to integrate the scripts into the vb.net code.

Hi,
I have form that has a date_from and date_to..
One table (id, reg_no, reg_date, desc)
I want to search between those two dates from the form against reg_date on the table..
Using vb.net and sql express..
Thanks in advance

this can be done in sql with the 'between' construct in the 'where' clause.

What he said.
If you want more flexibility you can also use something like
"SELECT * FROM table WHERE (reg_date > " & MyDate1 & ") and (reg_date < " & MyDate2 & ")"

Thanks,
I tried this: Select * from FireArmsTD_View
Where (FrireArms_date > " & DateFrom & ") And (FrireArms_date < " & DateFrom & ")
I got invalid column name for both ' & DateFrom & ' and ' & DateTo & '
thanks

As written, your "s are not correct and DateFrom is shown twice, but I'll assume those are just typo's.
Make sure that DateFrom and DateTo are showing up as strings. I guess I forgot to mention that, and that they need to be enclosed in quotes. I usually create a string variable to check while debugging.

Try this:
select * from FireArmsTD_View
where FrireArms_date between to_date('&DateFrom','mm-dd-yyyy') and to_date('&DateTo','mm-dd-yyyy')
Btw, is better to use the 'Database Board' for these kind of questions.

Two warnings:
1.
IIRC the SQL BETWEEN keyword is a bit dangerous as different implementations use different definitions; the issue is inclusive versus exclusive, i.e. does an exact match with a border get included or not. Read the doc, or use explicit comparisons.
2.
Use SQLParameter to avoid all datetime formatting and regional settings issues; it's much better/cleaner/safer than string concatenation anyway.
