My understanding, based on what was posted some months ago, articles are not part of it but some math formula of technical forums ( not soapbox or lounge) post count and post votes just for some period of time like a year. Then I think it starts over and new MVP's will be awarded the next period based on the same calculations over that period of time. Does that help?
Basically I had a hot streak, of several months, of questions in the forums I frequent (C++ forums, .NET, XML, Design etc.) where I was able to help people, and enough of them bothered to vote a '5' that my count fell into the cut-off for that period of time. So basically... lucky.

Good, but if not "lucky" do we have to force people to vote us 5 when we answer their questions perfectly

Go right ahead. Keep in mind I am not responsible for any troubles it may cause you.

On the basis of your outstanding bio, given it's clear demonstration of your immense ennui, we were going to ask you in for an interview for a $300k a year job.
And then I read:

I can feel your pain about the "HOW TO ANSWER A QUESTION" thingie, but I really enjoyed you answers. It's a shame.
