MyXaml, Marc Clifton's .NET-child, gave me some inspirations when I was hacking a plugin for that framework. Unfortunately, daily work got a little hectic, so I never finished the plugin. Instead I had to finish a massive web application based on java/j2ee. I had written a GUI/Widget toolkit, similar to that of ASP.NET, a while ago, so I never had to deal with HTML directly (phew!). But it was still tedious to do GUIs. First you had to recompile and redeploy, and then wait for the webserver to compile the JSP-files. So, testing a simple change in the GUI layout could take as long as 30-40 seconds!
Marc Clifton and his MyXaml gave me the idea of a life time. I quickly adopted the general concepts in his framework, and churned out some chunks of Java code. While not as generalized as Marc's framework, my child turned out to be exactly what I needed. Now when I do GUI layouts, I have a turnaround time at about ~1 second. YES YES YES! And to top it off, this GUI technique allows the customer for whom I'm writing this, to customize the layout of the application itself, without having to program in Java. In fact, it's so easy that anyone with just half a brain, could modify the layout to their liking.
My job has become almost too easy now. And I have Marc Clifton to thank for it - I would never have thought of this until way too late.

that nobody is looking into the reason why 8000 people couldn't vote in the presedential election (year 2000) in the USA?
I get a funny feeling when the world's bringer of democracy and freedom don't bother to investigate such a matter.

Not at all. I'm looking at a Faithless CD as I write this.

Senility strikes hard on saturday evenings.
Speaking of metal, I'm sure there's got to be some metal bands in SA. Got any names for me to look up? Any band name would do really. I'm curious of what SA has to offer musically besides Queen/Freddie Mercury.

I don't keep up and I forget names easily, but there is some good stuff here.
One I remember distinctly is Battery9 (pronounced Nege). Bit of electronic in it but cool stuff.
This compilation CD lists some names.
Barney Simon is South Africas metal expert, he is about the only radio DJ here who plays alternative and metal. His site will have some lists I am sure.

Ahh, I was trying to remember this one dance track the other day that I absolutely adore. It just came on the radio; Lost in Love by Legend B.
It is simple but quite sublime.
As for Faithless, if you have to choose one track it must be Salva Mae. Insomnia, God is a DJ, Tarantula and Take The Long Way Home are all good but Salva Mae is epic.
I also adored the short Crazy English Summer track from their Outrospective album. She sings "Fifty thousand miles from home" and my spine tingles. We come one from the same album, the one they chose to head the release and all the DJs played, I think is terribly overrated. Sure, it is a fine track but it never really kicks in, hovers on the edge and then backs away. Tarantula should have been that albums lead, but I guess it does not have the same catchy sellability of We come one.
Ok, ok, I am a big Faithless fan

I added the God Is a DJ track. I'm afraid I don't have the Salva Mae track, so I can't try it out. Maybe I'll put on my black hat with a skull and search the 7 seas for it. Har har.

You should try a band called Kosheen. Apparently they've been support band for Faithless. Ranges from drum'n'bass to dance in style. Nice strong female vocals.
Also, the latest Delerium album is right up your alley if you enjoy Faithless.

And One? Har har. I don't like Apop though. The used to be good, but went to poppy for me.
I'd suggest:
- The Box - Orbital
- Radioactivity - Kraftwerk

And One went too poppy too. But the latest album is kind of good.
Newest favorites are Gothminister[^]. Check them out if you can

They have always been poppy. I've seen them play 2 months or so ago, and they are still good "live". (Siderant: why don't they even plug in their keyboards? I was working at the festival, so I knew they weren't plugged in (well 80% of those bands isn't) but it might be a good idea to give the impression at least).
I'm not in the genre anymore. My musical tastes have changed since then. But I'll give Gothminister a try (and pass it on to my sister and brother in law, whom still like the stuff).

That one is such a pearl! I firmly believe that song is timeless. It will sound just as good in 40 years from now as it does today.

by the way, have you heard Tori Amos' version of Enjoy the Silence? It's quite good (although not as good as the original)
