Nice, I've seen enough movies with his work and he works with some big composers, but I can't say I'd recognize his music

So you really wanted me to click that by telling me not to click it? It worked.
I like his rock n roll music.

So who here is taking off work to watch the eclipse? (In North America, that is)
I've had the day off scheduled about 4 weeks in advance, and I'm going to be gathering with my astronomy club at a National Park Service event in NJ. We'll all have our telescopes and solar binoculars ready to go.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

I envy you your chance to see a Solar eclipse. No such eclipses are predicted for Israel for the next few hundred years
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

We're a bit luckier. Next total solar eclipse will be in year 2135 here. Mere 118 years to go.

I'm going to be taking a couple pieces of paper off the copy machine and a paper clip and make a pinhole camera. Won't have totality up here in Albany though.

I've seen an 80+% eclipse in Israel, but I'm told that the difference between it and a total eclipse is like the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.

So I've heard too. I haven't gone eclipse chasing, and the one time I had a chance to see one, it was overcast.

Pinhole camera view -> WOW! I did that when I was a kid when the last one (incompletely) rolled in.

They are really freaky.
In 30 seconds it goes dark, and cold, and the birds think it is dusk and start squaking.
It is a very surreal experience, worth doing!

I'll be at my neighborhood pool swimming . I'm well north of Atlanta, and we'll be at 95+% eclipse level - good enough for me.
Regrets: should have bought up solar eclipse glasses, could easily turn a 300% profit right now.

Work in Charlotte, NC - maybe 80 north of Columba, SC where it will be total.
Where I live, we will have about a 98% coverage, so my wife and daughter will be meeting up with friends to watch it.

I'm not near the total eclipse but was excited to view the partial. Even got my eclipse glasses. And now...clouds.

There are many things in Windows 10 that I hate, but it is still the default for most businesses. Linux offerings may be free, but they are also more difficult for the typical user (not us )
Microsoft may be the company that everyone loves to hate, but it, not Linus Torvalds, is the one that made computers accessible to the masses.

Unless you consider Microsoft's products to be as damaging to Human health as cigarettes are, that's one hell of a nonsequitur!

I've been using BetterNet - when out of the USA, since some websites I access, including the one for my credit card that is touted as being a "global card" (at least it doesn't charge a currency exchange fee) - but now that it has been revealed to be hacked, I would like to use another one, so I am interested in any opinions. I know that this website is very global, so certainly folks here should be in the know on this.
Here is the article about BetterNet being hacked. Interesting, I have not noticed any rogue ads except when I am watching pirate sports channels.
