I gifted my daughter a Moving/Rolling/Jumping alarm clock as I always argued with her that she needs to be more independent in the morning. The ritual of waking her up in the morning is always " 10 mins more ,5 mins, 1 mins and 30 sec more". She uses me as her clock with verbal snooze button.
I think its my mistake that I asked her to use it during the October school break.
Today morning, I heard the alarm and then a loud thud and so went to check what happened. What I saw was a gruesome crime scene with dead remains of the Clock along with a paperback book on top of it. The clock I assume had no chance to run or roll with her clothes lying around in the floor and my kid not being a morning person.
So my biggest dilemma is should I buy a new clock or a helmet for myself.
cheers,
Super

Time to teach her the valuable lesson that robots have feelings too:
1. Buy a baby alarm clock
2. Program it to say (in a very lonely and sad voice): "I'm looking for my mummy, has anybody seen her"
3. Let the guilt stew

Why in the first place you are waking her?! I stop doing that after their 10th birthday...
(If they want an alarm clock they can buy one)... I have nothing to do them not being at school in time... They know that if the teacher asks me why they didn't arrived today I will tell only truth... And the shame does the rest...

It is mostly the kid, that have to answer most serious questions to the director/teacher...
It can be sometimes the teacher (however most of them know me already) when they try to blame me...
(The other question I like more than that is when they ask me why my kid din't finished homework )

1. next she asks you to wake her up for something she wants to do, don't.
2. later when she complains give her $10 and tell her to go and buy an alarm clock.
3. didn't buy a clock? repeat #1 (but not #2, remind her she already got $10 to buy a clock)

As internet stereotypes tell me, there are two ways to parenting, white parenting way where you politely request her to not to do it and non-white way where you use spanking. You can decide what type are you. This is for breaking the clock.
For waking up, glass of ice cold water would work fine.

In many - and an increasing number - of countries it is illegal to spank your child: Corporal punishment: How it's defined, its effect on children and where it's illegal - CNN[^]
While I may disagree with the law, it's in place to protect the kids from "overzealous" parents - and my father fitted right into that category.

I also disagree with the law, I don't really understand why it was ever so difficult for the law to tell the difference between a child that is being abused and one that has just had a smacked bottom. I mean I get the parents were obviously trying to use the defence of "it was just a harmless smack to teach them a lesson", but again it should be easy enough to identify if that claim is true or not.
However, smacks were just there to offer a deterrent for bad behaviour. As a kid you knew not to do something because there would be consequences - a sore arse (of back of leg if you were the type to try and wiggle out the way ). So if consequence is the lesson that was being taught, surely there should be plenty of other ways to teach consequence without physical action? Yet still, it seems we are in a time where children get away with anything without knowing consequence. I guess that's just down to lazy parents who want an easy life where the kid just gets what they want to keep them quiet.
I am not really sure why I wrote all that now... just thinking out loud I guess.

'Spare the rod and spoil the child' is actually an English proverb, which we in India have been taught from childhood.

It's actually Biblical - Proverbs 13, verse 24.

It is against the law here too... however if you try to remove a teacher who constantly 'manages' the class by shouting/frightening the kids, you (and the kid) will have a very hard time... And that because shouting isn't described as hurting in the law (even most kids remember that much more than an occasional slap)...

Hot is much better. You would not believe how quickly someone gets up when a magazine of 32 9mm Parabellum has just been emptied right next to his ear.

My neighbors are used to a lot. They also listen to loud Heavy Metal. If they want to or not.
Strange. Nobody called the police. Actually everybody was laughing while gearing up and loading their guns.
