The ones I've used were 3.
Gah...trying to imagine a USB 2 dock performance; I may have just hemorrhaged.

Good lord, is that an actual RS232 port and a parallel port connector I see there? Do most people even remember those???

I do. OTOH, I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

Docking station with 2 view ports. I have 2 27 inch Asus VG278Q Gaming Monitors.
These monitors are pricey, but they are the best I have ever had, so they work well with my gaming/game development/regular coding, and for watching movies, etc.
Looking at the MG278Q... 27" at 2560 x 1440 resolution.
Looks really nice, but a bit too expensive for me I think
I mostly work, no (new) games, no movies, no game development...
This monitor would be overkill.
Although I DO miss the good old PC gaming days and with this new setup...

Then go with the sleek, no border, 27 inchers that you have been looking at, that are in your price range, and you should be golden.

Why a docking station? Just use the external video port on the laptop and plug a big monitor in.
Then a USB mouse and keyboard on a hub and you are all set.
I only have one external video port on my laptop, but I want two (preferably same-sized) monitors.
If I get an external keyboard I'd have to put my laptop screen so far away that it's too small to read at all.

Will a docking station support two monitors?
Yes, if it has 2 view ports. The newer docking stations do have this (for newer laptops).
OK, thats pretty cool. Do the laptops themselves only have one video port then?
Yes, usually, but I think the graphics card inside has to be able to handle multiple view ports (via the docking station) - I could be mistaken on this part.
Yeah, it is going to be a graphics card issue, and if it can handle two it would be dumb not to put two ports on the laptop but only on the docking station port.

Put two ports on the laptop and never sell a docking station again
You need some time with marketing and sales
Or put two ports on your laptop and screw your competitor who make you buy a docking station.
You need to spend some time in the real world.

Betamax was better than VHS, but they never really made it in the real world
First example I could come up with, but I'm sure there's more

If you can sell a laptop with one video port using sex then go for it! (Thats what caused VHS to win)

Damn, it's expired!

Sony wouldnt license BetaMax for the porn industry. They didnt make the same mistake with BlueRay.

The one I have in mind even supports three

It's Dell (just like my laptop), but it works with USB, so I guess it would work with other brands too (I've had vendor and even laptop specific docking stations at work).
As long as you don't buy yhe Thundetbolt Fock ftom Dell.
Where I'm contracting now they have been battling Dell for a coupke of months to get them to admit that this dock just doesn't work.
They've lied about getting it to do what we say it can't and just today had it picked up without admitting fault.
