Never get tired of watching it.

Escape from New York. Great film even if Donald Pleasance completely hammed it up. If it hadn't been for his perfomance, the film would have been even better.

Tremors didn't make the cut?
What kind of malarkey is this?

Right. Have your judges watch Gravity and Edge of Tomorrow, and then tell me that they aren't on the list because they aren't very good movies.
If you think 'goto' is evil, try writing an Assembly program without JMP.

And surely Logan's Run deserves at least an honorable mention.

No, I like them both but not enough to put them on the list. Feel free to add them to your own list of greats.

A good movie but rather dull science fiction movie.
TNCaver wrote: and Edge of Tomorrow,
Can't say that this is really great. I liked it but I liked the first Transformers as well. Doesn't mean I really want to watch it again though. I needed to look it up just to remember what it was.

There are an extremely few movies I care to see more than once. EoT is one of them.

I don't see Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
Does that mean that it is not so good ?
... or probably it's more fantasy than SF.

It's rubbish.
And Star Wars is fantasy/adventure.
There is only one Star Wars and it was released in 1977.

Most of those aren't anything I'd ever watch.

Any list of sci-fi movies missing Buckaroo Banzai is worthless.

Have you watched:
Mad Max (1979)
The man who fell to earth (1976)
Solaris (1972)
Westworld (1973)
And perhaps a few more from this list: Rolling Stone
The Thing and Capricorn One are of course epic must-have-seens, but are they really that good?
... such stuff as dreams are made on

Yup. All good (except Solaris which I did not like).

Interesting idea but the execution wasn't that great.

I'm not a sci-fi buff but had a quick look at the list. 2001 on top. Hard to argue with that. I wonder how many other lists Kubrick would top.
[edit] Ah alphabetical - well poetic justice.

I have never understood why that incredibly over-long boring movie was ever considered a great movie.
But I am glad you enjoyed it!

Like all significant creative acts it broke new ground. You had to be there.

Hey - I was 4 when it came out - I was there - I just wasn't - there there. You see?

I would add Men In Black to my list because I'm unsophisticated, uncultured and found the movie amusing. Some good films on your list though. I haven't heard of a lot of them because I'm not a sci-fi aficionado. Good conversation starter though.

Oh come on, Woody Allen Sleeper?
Has to be in there, it is classic!
Running Man? Dark Star? Silent Running? These are classic si-fi.
Good to see District 9 is in your list, one of the best films made of the genre. And just why the hell dont we see more SA films if they can make them this goof? Weird.
