Today I stumbled on this Job ad in Japan

The whole page and site in in English!
I am pretty sure Japanese don't like gajin coming "steal" their job! What's going here!
Is it that hard to find graphic engine programmers?!

That's nothing - I was recently offered a game development job in Athens (including a work visa, temporary exemption from taxes, flex work hours and a furnished apartment) due to my C++/C# experience. I decided to pass 'cos game development is Greek to me.

you mean it's Chinese? or double Dutch?
So confused... In France where I grew up we say it's Chinese when it's gobbledygook, now in Australia (where I live now) we call it double Dutch!
Aside that, Greece is quite nice!

In Italy we say it's Greek :P consider that the Classical high schools teach both Greek and Latin here (makes sense since it's our history).

They're most likely looking for lower wage Indian consultants, most likely. Indians don't speak Japanese, but do speak English and Japanese speak some English too.
There is a chance that they are full-time positions available for anyone that speaks English. Unemployment is very low in Japan; so there might be a shortage of developers and IT pros. It would be cool to work in an exotic city like Tokyo.

On a train, a number of years ago, I watched a wonderful Japanese movie called "Shall we Dansu".
It's one of those movies that seriously grabs you by the things that you may be grabbed by (JSOP: look elsewhere). I've happily watched it several times, since then.
The missus pointed out to me, the other day, that it had been remade in hollywood, with *immense greats* like Dicky Gere, "Tweak-my-Nipples" Lopez, and "Anything-for-Money" Sarandon.
Please remind me never to watch hollywood remakes of good movies, eh?
I am unbelievably pissed off at how cr@ppy the remake is -- A hundred times the budget, a hundredth of the value.
Following up from an earlier thread:
Producing art isn't hard; you just need real artists to be involved and to do the creative work.
Do we have a date when hollywood will fall into the sea? Please don't tell any of the morons who live there.

One Hollywood remake that was not great but not unwatchably bad was Solaris:
Solaris (2002) - IMDb[^] Nothing like the real thing but still OK.
And a, believe it or not, brilliant Shakespeare out of Hollywood was was this:
Much Ado About Nothing (2012) - IMDb[^]

It is a great Shakespeare movie. And it is out of Hollywood. Some people may find that unexpected. That's all.

I think the original is quite a lot better -- if you play it at 1.5x speed.
megaadam wrote: Much Ado About Nothing (2012) - IMDb[^] Shakespeare by Whedon? I'll have to look it up. Branagh's version was technically a Hollywood movie, but was also damned good.

IMHO Whedon's version is a lot better than Branagh's, which is no bad.
