Made me think of the constipated accountant who worked it out with a pencil.
It was only in wine that he laid down no limit for himself, but he did not allow himself to be confused by it.

The more I deal with Python , the more I appreciate Lua .
Thank you all, Lua creators.

Blizzard games World of Warcraft does most of their client UI code in Lua.

Just looking at the demos and came across:
function Account:withdraw (v)
if v > self.balance then error("insufficient funds on account "..self.name)
end
self.balance = self.balance - v
end

I assume you picked that one on purpose.
OOP support is not where Lua really shines, I know.

No, I was just looking at some samples on the Lua site, and that was the third or fourth one that came up. I just found it confusing compared to all the other languages I have ever worked with. In 'normal' languages, the first end would be an else .

Quote: In 'normal' languages, the first end would be an else. In Lua it would be an else as well.
However, there is an error call that abruptly interrupts the instruction flow (it never returns, like the exit of the C programming language).

I have to admit that is a rather unfortunate example (at least in my opinion).

And I have to admit that I should do what I tell other people to do: first, study the language.

I use LUA on the ESP platform along with NodeMCU.

I used to have lua on my windows machine but just looked and I no longer have it? Never used it much on the PC because it didn't seem that polished and as I remember no GUI.

Whenever I mess around with Lua, I use the Visual Studio Code Lua plug-in by sumneko. I have nothing bad to say about it. Works like a charm.

Thanks I'll check it out

Hi all, is is possible to search for posts on here containing specific text in the subject and posted between certain dates ? I'm keeping a log of CCC clues recording who set and solved them and would like a list of all clues posted this year without having to trawl through everything.
Pseudo code
Select * from ccc
where subject = 'CCC'
and posted_date between 01-01-2021 and 09-07-2021

Go to Search[^] and hover the mouse over the search box. It should show the various options. I don't think it accepts dates in the way you want.
