Well if insiders news is a prerequisite for posting here why isn’t that posted in red at the top of this page?
If you can't laugh at yourself - ask me and I will do it for you.

Looks like my motherboard integrated CAT5 connection has failed - all attempts to get Windows to repair it up to sacrifice of a goat have failed.
So, I've got the desktop, but it's got no access to Github, CP, NAS, or half the other stuff I rely upon.
Fortunately, I have a spare PCIe port, so I'll bite the bullet and go WiFi ... but it's so frustrating having only the Surface to work on, one tiny monitor isn't much good at all (and the keyboard stinks for development). What a way to end a grotty year!
Roll on tomorrow and an Amazon delivery.

Naturally; Windows only accepts sacrifices of cats.
Don't you have a Wi-Fi USB dongle that you could attach to your desktop? I keep an old (150Mbps) dongle around especially for emergencies like this.

Herself used it.
I haven't seen it since, Gawd knows what she used it for, or where she would have left it... I keep a set of "sacrificial tools" where she can find them, then I collect them from wherever she dropped them, bang them back into shape and of we go again.

If you want to give the hardware a second opinion, boot a Linux LiveCD/USB.

Even a single small monitor, a cramped keyboard, and a touchpad mouse is better than that!

Nope! You can tell because I'm not actually dead yet ...
They've been claiming "year of Linux" since the early 90's - every year. And still it's nowhere near general adoption, even if you count Chromebook in there as a variant.
It's fragmented (how many variants are there this week?), it needs Windows in a VM to run pretty much any real-world app, and ... to be honest it comes over as a deliberately arcane geekfest that needs a lot of care and attention if you want to keep it running. That may not be the case any more, but just trying to work out what distro to use is enough to send most real-world users straight to Microsoft / Apple / Google.
I'm not saying it's garbage - though it was loosely based on Unix which definitely was - but it's not for me.

I don't recall suggesting you <gasp> become a Linux puke. Just use it to give a quick hardware test. I am not some zealot for Linux, I just use it, have done for some 15 or 20 years. I run Windows a lot, but in VM's. I think you will find that a huge part of the Internet runs on Linux servers. Well if you ever get connected.

Man I hate it when that happens, it's enough to drive you insane.
But seriously though, this is a hard problem.
