I'm working my way from the start - I'm only up to August 2007 so far (lack of time, alas)
Did you ever see Schlock Mercenary[^] ?

I've never seen that, but I just read that first one & it's funny.
Will read more -- as long as work doesn't get in the way.

Having six daughters, I have encouraged all of them that there is nothing wrong with asking the boyfriend for his credit score. At 16, they thought I was full of ****. At 25 they give me long stares. Yet I believe in marrying for love. but money is second to what kills all marriages.
Youngest daughter mentioned this to her mom (I overheard). I coughed "bull....". I'm not included in any more conversations - sort of.
Now, maybe I'm old school, and I am *certainly* an old fart. But I've been married.... sorry had to pull up the calculator ... 43+ years. If you (pick a side) aren't willing to go all in, keep the ring or reject it.
I'll follow the series....

Let me guess, you also had 3 female cats, 2 female dogs, and some goldfish that were probably all female, too.
There is a Blue Colar Comedy line about this.

Any Len Deighton lovers out there? I must admit I have a penchant for these cold-war spy stories. Just started watching the new TV series The Ipcress File (2022, ITV). It is starting out really good. Any opinions?
SS-GB was not bad, but not very strong either, IMHO.

Besides Deighton, I'd recommend Nelson DeMille's The Charm School[^]. He has a sense of humour, much like Mick Herron's Slough House series. Also Desmond Bagley's Running Blind[^], which I read after watching the TV adaptation. If you type "cold war spy thrillers" into Amazon's search bar, you'll have hours of sifting ahead of you.

Desmond Bagley - one of my favourite authors - Running blind is a great book - all his original books are great - haven't yet read the recently discovered lost book - Domino Island yet though...

Yes, I was very much into these books years ago. But I got a bit bored with "Game, Set & Match", "Hook, Line & Sinker" (was there a third one?), as they didn't have the real twists and turns of the first four or five he wrote.
The new TV series is interesting but has only very passing reference to the book.

I enjoyed both those trilogies, I don't think I read the third: Faith, Hope, Charity

You did very well considering you only had one correctly placed on the second go

First green in second attempt filtered a lot for me. Plus the two yellows were meant to be together. I just needed 2 more letters and I was lucky I guess.

Luck does play a large part in this ... strange when you consider that it's very much a deterministic game!
