Yes, well that is equally implausible.

As some of you have probably noticed, in my sig below, 2 of the links are Bit.ly shortened (Web/Twitter) and by appending a '+' to the link you can get the statistics of the link clicks.
This morning I thought I would check out both of the links to see how often they get clicked and where was clicking them. I wasn't surprised to see the USA as #1, but was very surprised to see Iran as #2.
I had a look at my Google Analytics for the same period since the Link was created (i.e. 24th Jan 2011), which would obviously cover all visits to the site and not just via the link and Iran is #71.
Any clues as to why Iran would have such a high interest? Does CodeProject have a high visitor rate from Iran, the stats suggest it does? @Chris-Maunder

I wouldn't read anything into it. I often get weird stats for my sites; it usually turns out that it's because the site's been mentioned on some bulletin board or in the introductory/supplementary material for a university course.

There is nothing wrong with it, it is just unsual for Iran to appear so high up the demographic statistics versus other countries.
As I said also in the post, my website as a whole, Iran is #71 on the visitor rankings.
I would have thought that maybe the UK or or some other european countries might have been higher up.

Would it be possible that bit.ly links are easier to pass around in Iran compared to normal links (bypass censors)?
I'd rather be phishing!

|
|
|
|
@Maximilien: URL shorteners are always easier to pass and it has nothing to do with the censoring..
@DaveAuld: Not sure what may cause that, but I think Mark_Wallace might be right...

Face it Dave - you're kind of a big thing in Iran.

I will make it clear now that I have nothing to do with their nuclear program...

Of course you don't.
And of course that's exactly what we'd all expect you to say.
We're watching you, Mr Auld.

We are done for now, with the words "Iran" and "Nuclear" and "Program" being mentioned, the site will be ranked high on the NSA watch list. Expect all traffic latency to increase slightly as it passes through the extra man-in-the-middle filtering proxies...

I know this is a coincidence, but we just received a fairly massive spike in traffic that caused 2 webservers to backup for a couple of minutes.
I'm sure it was coincidence.
