Yes there is, there is no downvoting now in the lounge. The rule needs updating.

English doesn't borrow from other languages.
English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

What a change over the last couple of days.
Yesterday, the office fan heater under my desk had to go on a couple of times, as the chill was in the air.
Today, fek-a-doodle-do, it is baltic, the winds are howling through the place and there is a definite rock and roll about the installation. Might venture underdeck once it is daylight just to see how bad it is. The 6am forecast was 60Knots and 5.5 to 9m seas, so not that bad, think it is just the shock to the system after such a relatively good summer.
Other than that, don't think I will wander far...The biscuits are stocked, there is plenty milk in the fridge for the tea. brrrrrr.....
Times like this I wish I had taken my RasPi out with me.

So how big do the seas get?

On a pretty bad day you might be around 15 metres. It is when you get the rogue waves that hit, formed by the convergence of multiple waves is when you really notice it.
If you look at this video you will see a typical rough day, and then get one of the convergences at around the 45 second mark.

Good video ! At 50 when the wave hits almost the top (or should I say bottom) of the rig, top-left corner of the installation, there was yellow light, was it just reflection ?
Guys on rig don't get sea sickness (not sure if there is any other word for it). Its pretty tough when you see waves the whole day.
Thanks,
Milind

The platforms typically have big sodium lights that shine off the bottom of the platform towards the sea. When the wave hit, it looked like all the spray / crest of the wave engulfed the light causing it to be more noticeable.

We are having the first bad weather of the season here in San Diego. Wednesday saw the first rain during rush hour traffic since...April? May? Not really sure, but it was not too bad.
I stayed at work an extra hour and decided not to go on the freeway where the Highway Patrol's website reported "Roadway flooded" right around where I normally take an off ramp to go onto another freeway.
Anyway, we may have a few showers during the commute Thursday morning, but it looks like the temperature will be back to 80°F (26°C) on Monday.

Yesterday afternoon I had to pick up my daughter from school, parked in the car park 10 minutes early and sat listening to the radio, 5 minutes later it started to rain, by the time I had to leave to get into the school it was absolutely lashing down, the wind had picked up and I the rain was being driven against me. I was in my wife's car so didn't have a coat, just wearing work trousers and shirt. By the time I got into the school I was soaked through, my shirt practically see-through.
Then it stopped raining, the sun came out, the wind dropped off, and she came out of school.
If there ain't a god, someone is sure out to get me.
