Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus. Bought it just before the S24 came out as it was on sale. Nice phone, big enough display for my vision issues. I'm a long-term fan of the Samsung Galaxy product line. I've had an S5 and an S9 Plus, all of which have been very sturdy and reliable. The only reason I replaced the S9+ was that I'd replaced the non-replaceable battery once (YouTube worked a treat), and didn't want to go through the painful process again when the new one wouldn't hold a charge for a full day.

My wife & I replaced our last phones (Moto G Stylus SG), which both developed problems at the 2 year mark. There was a great sale on the Pixel 8 Pro, it had good reviews, so we went with it. It's an ok phone.
I use a phone for calls, personal email, photos, and web browsing. Occasionally as a weak flashlight.
I don't install many apps, as it's very common to request access to my contact list, which I veto. Some years back the LinkedIn app uploaded my contact list, and I had a few ugly conversations with their tech support regarding deleting my information. I doubt that they actually did, but in any case, I uninstall most apps that request my contact list.

Another old ex flip phone user, the last flip phone I had broke in half 2 years ago and my wife made me get a smart phone so I bought the cheapest one I found on Amazon, a Samsung Galaxy A03 Core for $200-ish and I'm still getting used to it, but I do like it and would probably not go back to a flip phone now. The only thing I will never get used to is how much bigger than a flip phone it is. Yes, being a dinosaur is tough sometimes

iPhone 13 mini.
Why are all the phones so huge? I don't want my phone to be the size of a tablet. Generally I'm not interested in surfing the 2" web - if I am doing something other than phone calls and messaging, I will move to a real computer.

A paid off S21. Works great, does everything I need it to do.
From a pure telecom POV, I could get by on a flip-phone. But there are apps that I need to have. Waze, Smart home stuff, banking, and lately shopping, like grocery apps or scanning items in stores where you can't find the price and store help isn't around. Admittedly, it's also nice to be able to take some pics and while I could do that on my camera, I'd have to remember to take it with me and carry it around.

Samsung S8. Had it for 7+ years. Still working fine. Battery life is still ok, but I need to recharge every day.

Microsoft Lumia 950. It cost a little over $100 and keeps me from having to engage in Big Tech's iPhone/Android duopoly. Does all I need it to do. Since Microsoft is steadily turning off more and more of its features through forced 365 subscriptions and certificate extortion, I'm thinking about upgrading to an HTC smartphone for $261 which was produced in 2012. I'll give it another few years, though, just to see what happens. Don't wanna be too hasty here.

My SO found this this morning and thought it worth passing on.
1. Two times a week, we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.
2. We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in California and mine is in Texas.
3. I take my wife everywhere...but she keeps finding her way back.
4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.
5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.
6. She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker. She said "There are too many gadgets and no place to sit down!" .. So I bought her an electric chair.
7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburator. I asked where the car was; she told me "In the lake."
8. She got a mud pack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.
9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling "Am I too late for the garbage?" .... The driver said "No, jump in!"
10. Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.
11. I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was Always.
12. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.
13. The last fight was my fault though. My wife asked "What's on the TV?" I said "Dust!"
If you can't find time to do it right the first time, how are you going to find time to do it again?

so I've never been a fan of stupidity, mine or anyone elses', and Microsoft seems to have staff meetings to escalate theirs.
Enter Apple.
I really don't watch much TV, maybe 1 or 2 football games a year (never soccer) and some ice hockey now and then, but I discovered I can see game re-caps on youtube, so good enough for me. I'm simply not going to pay $75/month for the right to turn off garbage tv. So Spielberg and Hanks FINALLY came out with Masters of the Air which was mostly utter nonsense with the exception of the US Army Airforce crews being slaughtered until the P51 Mustang became available. The German pilots were mean SOBs - no offense intended. So, I subscribed to Apple TV to catch the episodes, and with the last episode, I canceled my subscription. Or so I thought.
Checking credit card statements, they have continued to charge me, and on their web site make it nigh impossible to cancel. Canceled it twice, still being charged. Cannot get anyone to help me - they claim they do, but the charges kept coming. Okay, want to play this game? Created a virtual credit card # with a $1/day max amount, swapped the apple tv <-- this is my mistake here -- to that account #. I also refused the charges on my account. Do you think Apple might contact me? I've had an iPhone for 6+ years, etc. Nope.
My iPhone will no longer allow me access to the app store (all I tried to do was update a free app).
This is why I DESPISE single login. It is 8am on the east coast of America, 6/2/2024. I will now start a gambling pool for when all $hit breaks loose from my wife, older daughter, younger daughter who are all on my account.

File a complaint with the FTC.
The "Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act" is supposed to make that easy. The FTC is now attempting to put more rules into place to force companies to make it as easy to cancel as it is to sign up.
If feeling snarky you might also send a letter afterwards to them telling them you have filed a complaint.

I found cancelling the credit card an effective way to remove the leeches but then I don't have 2 daughters attached to the account.

The summer Olympics will soon be held in Paris. The government has spent $1.5B cleaning up the Seine so that it can be used for aquatic events. Macron and the mayor of Paris have promised to swim in the river to prove its cleanliness. Therefore, a mass "Defecate in the Seine" event is being organized. Apparently it's going swimmingly.
