I tried it and it told me to head for Utah. Utah? What's a naffin' Utah when it's at 'ome?

You do realize that by mentioning a jazz artist you lose all credibility as a developer? One of the CP cardinal rules is that you have to be a metalhead.

I guess I've never listened to any single genre. I enjoy classical and jazz as much as rock and metal (...while coding...) (did I already mention I also like Prince[^] ). The important thing is that the music is done with soul in it .
But I think I also qualifyto the metalhead category. I started with Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, AC/DC in the 70's and 80's and these days I like to listen newer bands like Nightwish[^], Within Temptation[^], Amaranthe[^] or Sirenia[^]

I've been putting it off for a while, due to how much time it will take, which with an album collection three or four feet thick is not trivial. It was bad enough doing the CDs...
Maybe I'll get to it, maybe I'll put it off for another ten years or so...

So true. Now digitized something like 100+ LP's now and lots of more waiting... However, listing to most of them at the same time is fun. Although some of the records are more like... embarrassing

You'd better buy the necessary equipment before it's only the garbage or esoteric stuff left, I've been looking at the NAD PP 4i myself.
Now I just need to get a new pickup instead of the old Ortofon MC-20 my son broke off the cantilever on.

You have a whole flock of "girls" in the typing pool. Can't they do it for you? Or give them to the kitty as it will help it develop the opposable thumb you are afraid of.

Know what you mean - I bit the bullet and threw all my vinyl away having replaced them with the CD version, then spent a couple of years ripping them to flac, soon as I buy a CD these days I rip it immediately - what software do you use to rip vinyl ?

I don't. I don't even have a deck anymore - which is one of the reasons I've been procrastinating for ten years or so about digitizing it all - so I'd need to get a USB deck (which generally come with software anyway)
My MP3 collection (without the LPs, just the CDs and purchases) is currently standing at 126Gb...so I'm not exactly short of music

I've ripped several slabs of old vinyl and a few cassettes as well. Much of it albums my father bought in the 50s and 60s -- i.e. no heavy metal.
My one bit of advice to anyone is to use a good quality turntable, not a modern one with the digitizer built in. Even more important than a good stylus is accurate speed - cheap turntables don't play at the correct speed and it can be noticable in the result. The turntable I use is a Technics I bought in the 80s.
A device like this : http://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/u-record[^] can be connected to a number of sources for increased utility. I use Audacity software to record and process the tracks.

A few hours ago I lost my dear friend Nalini to cancer. Nalini was a great mom, wife, friend and scholar, and a fighter to the end. Nalini is the bravest person I have ever known. I miss her smile, her wicked sense of humor, and her heart of gold.

I'm sorry to hear that - she sounds like a wonderful person.
Remember, she is not gone while you still remember her. My sincere condolences - it's never easy to lose a close friend, and it doesn't get noticeably easier each time.
