Funny, how windows-minded people are struggling to comprehend such a simple thing as Unix Way. That's why automation is something nearly unheard of in the windows world.

There is no struggle for me given that I use both OSes and have delivered products intended to be run on both, sometimes the same product. But given that I do in fact deliver products and must deal with support issues I understand that the target is not my own preconceived biases but rather what the target OSes use and what customers expect.

Cygwin? Maybe I'm getting too old now but I never heard of it until I saw you write about it.

Unless you have a use for it you probably wouldn't hear about it - I used it a few years ago to enable SSH on my Win box - works very well and reasonably light on resources.

Question to ask myself later: what is SSH?

You do realize that by mentioning a jazz artist you lose all credibility as a developer? One of the CP cardinal rules is that you have to be a metalhead.

I guess I've never listened to any single genre. I enjoy classical and jazz as much as rock and metal (...while coding...) (did I already mention I also like Prince[^] ). The important thing is that the music is done with soul in it .
But I think I also qualifyto the metalhead category. I started with Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, AC/DC in the 70's and 80's and these days I like to listen newer bands like Nightwish[^], Within Temptation[^], Amaranthe[^] or Sirenia[^]

I've been putting it off for a while, due to how much time it will take, which with an album collection three or four feet thick is not trivial. It was bad enough doing the CDs...
Maybe I'll get to it, maybe I'll put it off for another ten years or so...
The only instant messaging I do involves my middle finger.
English doesn't borrow from other languages.
English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

So true. Now digitized something like 100+ LP's now and lots of more waiting... However, listing to most of them at the same time is fun. Although some of the records are more like... embarrassing
