Great ! Welcome & Enjoy !
Psst ! Tips for newcomers:
Do not ask programming questions in the Lounge.
Gin is the fuel of severaltwo of the regulars, but the others are very normal freaks.

You will have to agree that Bacon is great (and if you forgive me a very rude stereotypical assumption based on your name, I know this might not be straightforward.).
Do not answer MQOTD with the right answer.
Have fun and make a lot of puns.

Stating things twice....I guess you are on Gin right now
Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

The gin is optional, but NO PROGRAMMING QUESTIONS is mandatory. It's worth saying at least twice.
Oh, and no programming questions.

Just spend time wandering around the forums, read questions and answers, and you will soon see how things work. And don't worry about the odd mistake, we all make them (apart from P O'H and OG).

I noticed in my profile there are points, do you know what they are for and how to collect them?
|
|
|
|
|
You get them for posting messages, answering questions, writing articles, helping others to write articles etc. Just about anything that contributes to the community will earn you points. If you collect a certain number in a year then you get a nice certificate signed by Chris, and a special icon by your name. Unfortunately you cannot trade them for <insert your favourite food and drink here>.

I liked the certificate thing is this for real? It will look good on my CV. How many points do I need? Do they send it by post?
About the points Can I redeem them for traveling miles haha

But don't waste time worrying about the points, they are really not that important, and you are much more likely to be judged by your general behaviour and the quality of your contributions to the site.

You gain reputation points by interacting with the site.
I believe there are some points at which you get more privileges, the ability to edit or remove unsuitable content for example.
They are worth nothing in the real world, and most no longer see them as some sort of badge of honour.
The Lounge is a place frequented by people trying to avoid work, or take a break from it for a short while.
The Soapbox is a place for old and unfunny jokes these days.
The rest of the site is useful, depending on what you do, what you know, and what you want to know.

Don't take my post too seriously !
About the gin, you will soon find out if you hang out in the Lounge.
About the MQOTD, answer something funny. As for "what is it" ... you will soon find out if you hang out in the Lounge.

You have to put up with the bacon jokes I'm afraid. But we still all respect each others' culture and beliefs.

We only eat Halal meat and chicken.

I have several Muslim friends (in fact the guy next to me is/was, he drinks like a fish & has the odd pork product) I was a little confused by the chicken does that apply to all poultry or just the chicken? (I did have a look on Wikipedia about it but it was not very helpful) I just don't want to make any mistakes...
|
|
|
|

All meat and chicken must be slaughtered to be halal the only thing that don't goes into that category is the fish and all what come from the sea. Some meat are forbidden to eat like pigs. Our usual meat are cows, sheep and camels, while chicken are the poultry you mentioned.

OK, I know I am being odd here but why does pork get such a bad reputation? I can think of three reasons;
1) raw pork looks like Human flesh (and experience has taught me smell the same when being burnt!) so it might have been used to trick some people into canabilism...
2) Pork when stored improperly can get toxic very quickly...
3) Pig diseases can mutate to humans easily, the flu pandemic after world war I was based on a mutant form of swine fever (though bird flu gets the headlines these days!) (least likely but hey!)
