Erudite_Eric wrote: What on earthis that supposed to mean? It's supposed to be an explanation on why I gave a harsh vote, for what looks like a rational remark in the lounge. I'm not good at explaining stuff.
Your only reason to make an issue out of it, is because you find it unfair that he is being treated as a hero. On his dying day.
Your reason is based on emotion; something "feels" unfair.
Rationally, there are no saints, no hero's. We're all (mostly) human.
Further, news has the tendency to be dramatized; it does not merely snow, it storms. The Dow does not go down half a point, it crashes to it's "weekly low". PC sales do not simply slump without anyone asking if it's the end of the desktop (or Microsoft) era.
I had the choice between marking it as spam or abuse; it's certainly not spam, but it shouldn't be in the lounge either - not today. Had you made your point any other day, I'd simply ignore it - but not on his dying day. So 'abuse', since it would be offensive for some readers.

There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Well, the was a "song", if you can call it that, some years ago with the title
Fatboy slim is elefanting in heaven
or something like that. Maybe the name was a reference to that "song".
The good thing about pessimism is, that you are always either right or pleasently surprised.

Don't forget his ex-wife, Winnie. She apparently did her best to eradicate male virginity in SA while he was incarcerated doing porridge. When she did have intimate relations with him they were alluded to an iconic statue in Trafalgar Square like thus:
Q. What slides up and down Nelson's Column?
A. Winnie.
If there is one thing more dangerous than getting between a bear and her cubs it's getting between my wife and her chocolate.

Whats that got to do with it? OK, my dads from cape town, my brother lives there now.
Does that make any difference?
He was a terrorist, the world forgetting that fact shows how utterly two faced it is.

I have to be invested to do that when truly I do not care what you think of Mandela or what you do not think, beside there is a point to be had that you replied to every post made and also take it way too seriously but like you said

You really are pathetic. You are now saying I am a racist just because my dad was born in capetown.
Why not do something about prejudice in thw world by not being so yourself?

One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. If you'd like to call him a terrorist, he would have loved to wear that badge with pride along with the likes of Che and Castro.

So what's your take on Mandela/ANC compared to the regime they were fighting?
Serious answer please.
Politicians are always realistically manoeuvering for the next election. They are obsolete as fundamental problem-solvers.

Of course aparthied was wrong, but it wasnt unique to SA, the US also had it, and it was also fought against, but passively.
And thats the difference. King was a hero, Mandella a terrorist.

But the level of oppression between the US and SA was also on quite different levels. Especially when you take the level of official oppression in account.

I dont know how much it varied between the US and SA, however blacks were killed in the south. They had to cross the street if a white woman walked down their side of the road, get on their knees and remove their hat if they passed a white man on the pavement.
I dont know that SA was worse than that, I dont see how it could be worse.

It was legalized.
But then again, if you go back more than one hundred years the US had slavery.
I read a document a while ago that made that comparison, I'll see if I can find it again.
BTW, I notice that you didn't really answer my original question.
