I tend to have milk to kill the heat, I don't mind really mind other than that. However cultural difference the milk in the states I find a touch too sweet....

There are cultural differences within the states also. For instance we in the south drink "Sweet Tea" which is cold tea that has sugar added to it and if you go to the north and ask for sweet tea they think you're an ignorant redneck from the south. They drink it unsweetened, I guess that makes them more edumacated?

Not to get too snooty but as a Brit the worst mistake you can make is have tea in the 'colonies' as the tea is not properly steeped!!

No I agree with you completely all Brits are snooty!
Our tea and beer here in the colonies is so watered down that they taste like flavored water.

What is important is the tea or coffee; additions are nice, but certainly not necessary.
And I prefer my tea black - plain - neat... and the blacker the better.

I remember offering a coffee to a customer, me "how would like it?" answer "black as my soul", (two steps back) "fine..."
