Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Has anyone noticed, there's a mass boycott going on Slashdot?
Apparently they introduced a new HTML layout, which everyone hated. Now, all topics are getting only "I hate the new layout" answers.

clearly they're not as sneaky as maunder is when he messes with the layout etc
i could have a good old fashioned rant about now....but i shan't.

Do you like the new new indicators on new posts?

I think slashdot got it wrong, one major update completely changing the format and layout. Maunder on the other hand twinkles with the UI so regularly we have all become inured to change.
His ability to ignore winges, whines, grumbles and bitchy little girls is almost waiter like!

Personally I've never hung around on Slashdot, but for the sake of this post I took a look at it. And the beta. It's a big change, yes, but I think the community is being childish about it. It's not that bad in my opinion. A lot of the comments just say f*** beta, which isn't really helpful.
A different tech website I frequent did quite a big layout change not too long ago, and initially people were upset as well. The fixed some of the issues, and nobody complains about it anymore. People will always complain when change is coming up, and it'll always take a bit before people get used to it (Youtube anyone?).
Slashdot did reply[^], by the way.

In theory, there is a site which can look at them all, and return information telling you which pages have material you are looking for.
I say in theory, because most of our users have clearly never heard of it...

This happened last night a few miles from my house. Not exactly an image booster for the police force.
http://www.cbs8.com/story/24637357/chp-handcuffs-firefighter-in-dispute-at-crash-scene[^]
Quote: According to officials, the officer told firefighters to move three fire engines from the fast lane, and two complied, but one firefighter refused that request and continued giving aid to the crash victims.
When the Fire Engineer refused to move his Fire Engine before it was safe to do so, the officer told the Engineer "you are under arrest." He then arrested the engineer in front of local news cameras, which captured the arrest on film. The Engineer was lead to a CHP vehicle where the pockets of his uniform were searched and he was placed in the rear of the vehicle. He was kept handcuffed and locked inside the vehicle for a period of over ½ an hour and ultimately released with no apparent explanation.

Reminds me of an incident here a while ago where an ambulance driver was taken to court for exceeding the speed limit - whilst responding to an emergency call complete with lights and siren...

Last weekend I watched an older TV series which was made in England and also plays in England (most of the time) where they deliberately had all traffic driving on the right side and the driver's seat was on the left.

there was an episode of Elementary (US Sherlock Holmes attempt) that had the cab they were in driving backwards - well all the traffic in the background was going the wrong way
