I know, but I used it in another sense just for the robot reference. Have some imagination...

Screw you guys, I'm going home!
Car packed, all fed and watered, and ready for departure. Orf to Brussels tonight then across German & Austria tomorrow to home. If you happen to be driving on the A3 south from Koln the whole way to Austria tomorrow then get out of the bloody way you're too bloody slow in your bloody VW Camper Van. Bloody Germans, think they own the Autobahn.

That is so true.
It is election day in Hungary, the Great Viktator will win[^], and Mrs Wife is up in London for the Expat Voting. They've got over 5,000 Magyars booked in to vote today so I hope she can get out in good time. She'd be a tad miffed if we left her behind.

Possibly, a very small underestimate, there?
On the other hand...if you leave her behind, she would have to fly out direct and avoid the long drive with the Ickles...this could be a plan...

Nah - you'd have to keep stopping to blow up the Ickles water wings...

It's all about getting the car over to Hungary.
Wife and ickles flies back so they don't use up valuable storage space on the way back.

We're not taking that much stuff. I liek the drive anyway, but it does make me tired.

Okay, we'll be in Budapest but we have to spend a lot of time in Balatonfured and Kiskunfelegyhaza [accents omitted to protect the Vilmos's sanity]. Driving between those places is around an hour each way from Budapest or the train will take 3-4 hours. I would reckon over two weeks we'll easily save the extra hours driving across.
That and even with fuel it is a lot cheaper for four of us to drive then to fly.

It's not entirely unusual to be overtaken by VW Campers doing 190 on the Autobahn.

Strange people, I wonder where that delusion comes from.

I remember the thrill of doing 200 on the autobahn when I lived in Munich for a while... pity it was only KPH rather than MPH!
Having said that, I also remember the shrieks of delight from a couple of my young nieces when the digital speedometer showed 100 while I was driving them down to Portsmouth one day. My car was one of the original Audi Quattros and I could switch the display between MPH and KPH any time I wanted. They didn't realise I was actually only doing 60ish! Their mother was not impressed since the limit was officially 50 but their father had a huge grin and wanted me to take them on the motorway for a spin!

As I remember the original Quattros (more grip forward than sideways) I would have asked for a drive on a dirtroad.

I always said I learned to drive sideways before I learned to drive in a straight line. I started with Rally-Cross driving at the age of 14 so spent my earliest few miles travelling sideways in muddy fields and dodging trees!
I actually found the sideways grip on the Quattro quite acceptable but then mine was a special edition with slightly better suspension and the Quattro Sport engine installed giving a few extra horsepower and 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds!
